Another Simple Favor: The sequel featuring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively will kick off SXSW 2025.

      A Simple Favor 2 has received its official title and premiere date. Another Simple Favor will serve as the opening night film for SXSW on March 7, 2025. The sequel reunites Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, reprising their roles as Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson. The two friends come together on the island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s wedding to a rich Italian businessman. The logline promises that alongside the glamorous guests, murder and betrayal will make an appearance at a wedding filled with twists and turns more complex than the road from Marina Grande to the Capri town square.

      Returning for the sequel are Andrew Rannells as Darren, Bashir Salahuddin as Detective Summerville, and Henry Golding as Henry Golding. The cast also includes Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Alex Newell, and Allison Janey.

      “When we screened this film last fall, we immediately knew it was perfect for the SXSW opening – it gave us that thrilling sensation we desire as programmers,” stated Claudette Godfrey, VP Film & TV. “Paul Feig and SXSW have a shared passion for bold, fearless comedy. From the unforgettable late-night screening of Bridesmaids to Spy’s uproarious world premiere, his films exemplify what makes our festival unique – wildly entertaining projects that challenge boundaries. We are exceedingly excited to partner with Paul again and launch the festival with a film that had our entire team laughing, cheering, and eager to rewatch it!”

      Paul Feig is back to direct Another Simple Favor, based on a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis. The first installment, A Simple Favor, released by Lionsgate in 2018, grossed over $97 million on a $20 million budget.

      It's currently uncertain whether Lively will attend the world premiere at SXSW, as she is involved in a high-profile legal dispute with Justin Baldoni stemming from their collaboration on It Ends with Us. Amazon MGM Studios will release Another Simple Favor on Prime Video on May 1, 2025.
