The Vero series from Acer has established itself over several generations as a leader in eco-friendly PCs. At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Acer introduced its most significant update yet with the Vero 16, a laptop that offers enhanced repairability alongside powerful hardware, representing a considerable improvement over previous Vero models. This newly designed notebook merges a recycled-aluminum chassis that is serviceable with Intel's latest Core Ultra processors and a 16-inch OLED screen.
Enhanced repairability for longer use
With the newest Vero model, Acer has shifted its sustainability focus from the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) framework to a 4R approach, incorporating repairability as a fundamental design element. The Vero 16 includes a tool-free access latch on the bottom cover, allowing users easy entry to internal components and enabling quick replacements of the battery and SSD. Additional features like removable I/O port covers and a detachable hinge complete the user-friendly design, simplifying routine repairs compared to most laptops. Acer claims that the chassis is designed to be compatible with processor upgrades for at least two generations, a rarity in a market centered on replacing entire devices instead of repairing them.
In terms of durability, the Vero 16 meets MIL-STD-810H certification standards and features a solvent-free powder coating that reduces volatile organic compound emissions while offering better resistance to wear than traditional paint. The top and palm rest covers consist of a blend of 50 percent post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50 percent low-carbon aluminum, and the laptop will be packaged in fully recyclable materials.
High-end specifications and on-device AI
Acer has combined its repair-friendly design with premium hardware. The Vero 16 can be configured with an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processor, along with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The laptop is powered by a 71Wh battery for all-day functionality. As a Copilot+ PC, it supports on-device AI functionalities, including Live Captions, Cocreator, and Acer's PurifiedView and Purified Voice tools for video calls and meetings.
Display options for the Vero 16 include a 16-inch 3K WQXGA+ OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, in addition to two 16-inch WUXGA OLED options, one of which features touch support for lower-tier models. Connectivity options comprise Wi-Fi 7 and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. Acer has not yet revealed pricing details, but the Vero 16 is expected to be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa starting in the first quarter of 2027, with specifications and pricing differing by region.
If the repairability claims are validated in practical scenarios, the Vero 16 may offer strong competition to Framework in a market where it has largely been alone. Acer's specifications check many boxes on paper, and we look forward to seeing how the laptop performs when it becomes available next year.
