Sports enthusiasts on YouTube TV can finally avoid switching between apps. Starting today, ESPN Unlimited is completely integrated into YouTube TV, which means there's no need to access a separate ESPN app to enjoy its offerings. This concludes a rollout that began in August when access was first introduced, although it still required users to switch apps to watch.
What ESPN Unlimited brings to YouTube TV
All subscribers to the primary YouTube TV plan, or any package that includes Sports, will receive this automatically. This grants access to live coverage of events such as the US Open, college football, PGA Tour golf, WWE Premium Live Events, LaLiga, and out-of-market NHL games, in addition to ESPN Originals, Films, and the entire 30 for 30 documentary collection.
The YouTube service also features the linear ESPN and ESPN2 channels, along with ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, and ACC Network. Furthermore, this now functions with YouTube TV’s existing features, including unlimited DVR, live scores, and stats, as well as multiview options.
The live guide has been updated to display three specific sections for currently airing ESPN Unlimited events, as well as a separate network row for easier navigation. For games with various broadcasting choices, viewers can switch between different languages, home and away feeds, or alternative camera perspectives.
Why this integration benefits your finances
In November, a two-week blackout removed ESPN and all other Disney channels from YouTube TV entirely, and this integration is part of the resolution to that situation.
The timing is advantageous as well. Disney is raising the standalone price for ESPN Unlimited from $29.99 to $31.99 per month starting September 17. However, if you’re already subscribed to YouTube TV with ESPN’s linear channels, you can save some money.
There's also a useful bonus for fantasy football enthusiasts. YouTube TV’s Fantasy View now collaborates with ESPN Fantasy Football, allowing you to link your account and view your team’s live stats in real-time during the game. With the NFL season approaching, this means one less tab will need to be open during matches.
