      After launching five new models in July, iRobot has returned to IFA 2026 with two more: the Roomba Max 875 and Roomba Plus 678. Priced at $1,200 and $900 respectively, both models come equipped with features that are increasingly becoming standard for high-end robot vacuums.

      Starting with suction power, the Max 875 boasts an impressive 35,000Pa, while the Plus 678 follows closely at 30,000Pa. Both employ what iRobot refers to as SealForce Vacuuming Technology, which the company claims provides three times deeper carpet cleaning compared to its vacuums that don’t use this technology. However, suction is just one aspect that makes the Max 875 noteworthy.

      The Max 875 aims for comprehensive cleanup

      Similar to many high-end robotic vacuums today, the Max 875 is designed to function with minimal input from the user. Once it docks, the system can empty the collected debris and clean the mop. The dock uses water heated to 176 degrees Fahrenheit to wash the roller, and the robot can also be automatically replenished with fresh water and cleaning solution before it resumes cleaning.

      The mop features a roller instead of two spinning pads, and it can extend to clean closer to walls and corners. When the Max 875 encounters carpet, the roller lifts and conceals itself, preventing a freshly cleaned wet mop from dragging on your rug. Additionally, there's a unique feature underneath: while mopping, the Max 875 can continuously emit a heated mist onto the floor to help loosen dried spills and tough stains. iRobot has even incorporated a hair-cutting main brush to minimize the amount of hair that wraps around it — a feature appreciated by anyone with long hair or pets that shed. Navigation is facilitated by LiDAR, while front-facing cameras assist the robot in detecting and avoiding obstacles.

      The more affordable Plus 678 does not compromise much

      At $900, the Roomba Plus 678 provides significant savings while maintaining several similar features. It still offers 30,000Pa of suction and an extending roller mop for cleaning along edges. However, instead of the heated mist feature found in the Max 875, the Plus 678 utilizes a high-pressure water spray to deal with messes.

      There are a few trade-offs to note. The Plus 678 lacks the Max 875’s mechanism that seals the mop roller when moving over carpet. Both models highlight the considerable evolution of the Roomba lineup. Modern flagship robot vacuums are no longer just roaming around picking up crumbs; they are increasingly becoming complete floor-cleaning systems that vacuum, scrub, self-clean, and prepare for the next run with minimal user involvement. Therefore, if you've been looking for Roomba to align with some of the more ambitious cleaning solutions available elsewhere, these two certainly appear to be a step in that direction.
