      Acer is providing PC gamers with yet another handheld option, this time opting for a more compact design. The company has unveiled the Predator Atlas 7, a smaller counterpart to the 8-inch Predator Atlas 8 it announced earlier this year. The concept is simple: incorporate much of the performance and hardware of the larger model into a more portable device, which is particularly advantageous for long gaming sessions.

      At its core, the device features a 7-inch Full HD touchscreen that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, supports variable refresh rates, and can achieve up to 500 nits of brightness. Acer maintains a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, protects the display with Gorilla Glass Victus, and includes a tempered glass screen protector in the packaging. Under the hood, however, the specifications become significantly more impressive.

      The Predator Atlas 7 can be equipped with an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor and Intel Arc B390 graphics, providing robust hardware for the compact display. It runs Windows 11 and offers access to Xbox Game Pass, functioning more like a portable gaming PC rather than a limited console. Effective cooling is ensured by two fans: one is Acer’s 89-blade metal AeroBlade fan, while the second plastic fan helps circulate hot air through specially designed channels within the handheld.

      Additionally, Acer includes an 80Wh battery, which is substantial for a device designed for travel. The controls have also been thoughtfully designed. Buyers can choose TMR joysticks that offer precise movement and reduce stick drift, as well as Hall-effect analog triggers for enhanced control in games requiring varying pressure. The device features contoured grips, textured surfaces, and a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button. Connectivity options are also robust, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and UHS-II microSD expansion.

      Acer’s other handheld is quite a bit more unconventional.

      In conjunction with the Atlas 7, Acer revealed a much more experimental device known as Project DualPlay Mini. This 8-inch concept addresses a unique question: what if a gaming handheld could also function as a laptop? Its display utilizes a flip-and-swivel mechanism that allows the device to transform from a traditional handheld into a compact laptop equipped with a physical backlit keyboard. This means that users could theoretically utilize handheld controls for console-style games, switch to a keyboard for PC-centric titles, and connect to an external display when needed for productivity tasks.

      This is an intriguing concept, especially as Windows handhelds increasingly mimic fully-fledged PCs integrated with controllers. However, there is one significant catch: Project DualPlay Mini is merely a concept at this stage, meaning there’s no assurance it will be available for purchase. Fortunately, the Predator Atlas 7 is a concrete product, and Acer has indicated it will launch in North America during Q4 2026, with the EMEA release slated for November. Pricing details have yet to be revealed.
