      The standout feature of this update is the introduction of turn-by-turn navigation that can be activated through voice commands. Ray-Ban Meta users can now begin navigation instantly by saying commands such as “Hey Meta, navigate to Times Square.”

      Previously, navigation on the standard non-display models was cumbersome. Users had to take out their phone, open their preferred maps application, initiate navigation, and stream audio instructions via Bluetooth to the built-in speakers. Up until now, voice-activated navigation was limited to Meta's higher-end Ray-Ban Display smart glasses. The latest update extends this convenience to the display-less model, allowing walking directions in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and certain international cities.

      Spatial audio processing

      In addition to navigation enhancements, Meta has included an optional spatial audio setting within the companion app. This feature employs AI to transform standard stereo audio into a three-dimensional sound environment, providing greater acoustic depth for music playback, podcasts, and navigation prompts. You can activate it by accessing settings, selecting audio, and enabling spatial audio.

      Firmware version 128 also broadens language support, adding Mandarin Chinese for voice commands, calling, messaging, media playback, and interactions with Meta AI. Furthermore, the update improves Meta's anti-tampering features to identify and deter camera modifications.

      Meta's latest update increases the utility of its smart glasses without a display. Voice-activated navigation addresses a major reason to use your phone, while spatial audio enhances everyday listening experiences. While these changes aren't groundbreaking, they advance the Ray-Ban Meta glasses towards being a truly hands-free companion instead of merely a Bluetooth headset with a camera.
