Brave's latest Email Alias feature helps protect your actual inbox address from websites.

The new feature provides users with five complimentary aliases, with plans for a Premium version to be introduced later.

Your email address serves as a simple method for websites and advertisers to recognize you online. If you use the same address across multiple sites, it can potentially link your actions across various services.

To combat this form of tracking, Brave has introduced Email Aliases in the desktop version 1.94 of its browser. This feature allows users to generate a different email address for websites, preserving the privacy of their main email.

How do Brave Email Aliases function?

After setting up a Brave Account, users can create an alias directly from an email field on any website. Messages sent to this alias are forwarded to the main email linked to the Brave Account.

The primary email address remains undisclosed to the website. Companies can upload customer emails to advertising platforms like Google, Meta, and LinkedIn, allowing them to compare them against existing user profiles. Since this matching often occurs on company servers, tactics like tracker blocking in browsers may not always prevent it. Additionally, aliases can help safeguard a primary email address from being compromised in case of a data breach.

      Setting up Brave Email Aliases

However, it’s important to note that Brave Email Aliases do not automatically block promotional messages or newsletters. Any correspondence sent to an alias can still be directed to the main inbox. If an alias starts to receive unwanted emails, users have the option to deactivate it, stopping future messages from being delivered to that address. Brave is providing five aliases at no cost for the time being, with a Premium version and mobile support expected in the future.

Brave is not the first browser to introduce this concept.

The use of email aliases is not a new phenomenon. DuckDuckGo Email Protection offers private @duck.com addresses that forward messages to an existing inbox and can remove supported email trackers before forwarding. Firefox Relay offers similar functionality and can create email masks through Firefox; its free tier currently allows for up to 50 masks.

Brave’s distinct advantage lies in seamlessly integrating another privacy feature within its browser. The company has recently introduced Containers to distinguish between accounts, cookies, and browsing sessions. Email Aliases now offer users another option for keeping information shared with various websites distinct.

AI is increasingly impacting short dramas, and actors are feeling the consequences.

AI-generated performances are transitioning from experimental to mainstream entertainment.

The entertainment industry appears to be entering an unusual new phase: the actor you are observing might not be an actual human performer. AI-driven dramas and digital performers are evolving from experimental technologies into standard entertainment, with production firms increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence to create characters, scenes, and entire short-form works. The transition is occurring so rapidly that some actors are already experiencing job loss and, in certain instances, are being asked to assist in the creation of AI versions that could replace them.

After analyzing over 7,000 mobile VPN applications globally, Proton reports that 85% of the VPNs in its US study contain trackers used for analytics, advertising, or profiling. Some of these applications are also able to access data such as your device ID, phone model, network type, mobile carrier, and even your physical location.
