The new feature provides users with five complimentary aliases, with plans for a Premium version to be introduced later.

Your email address is one of the simplest ways for websites and advertisers to identify you online. Providing the same address to various sites can lead to tracking your activity across different services.

Brave is working to limit this kind of tracking. With the launch of desktop version 1.94, the browser now includes Email Aliases, allowing users to give different email addresses to websites while keeping their primary email private.

How do Brave Email Aliases function?

After establishing a Brave Account, users can create an alias directly from an email input field on any website. Messages sent to this alias are forwarded to the main email address linked to the Brave Account.

The website does not receive the primary email. Businesses often upload customer email addresses to advertising platforms like Google, Meta, and LinkedIn to match them with existing user profiles. As this matching occurs on company servers, blocking trackers through browsers may not always be effective. Aliases can also help minimize the exposure of a primary email address, particularly if a website experiences a data breach.

Setting up Email Aliases in Brave

Nonetheless, Brave Email Aliases does not automatically filter out newsletters or promotional emails. Anything sent to the alias can still be forwarded to the primary inbox. If an alias begins to receive unwanted communications, users can deactivate it to stop future messages from arriving at that address. Brave initially provides five aliases for free, with plans for a Premium version and mobile support in the future.

Brave is not the pioneer in this area

Email aliases are not a novel concept. DuckDuckGo Email Protection already offers private @duck.com addresses that forward emails to an existing inbox. It can also eliminate supported email trackers before forwarding. Firefox Relay offers a similar service, generating email masks through Firefox, currently allowing up to 50 masks in its free tier.

Brave’s advantage lies in integrating this privacy feature directly into its browser. The company has recently added Containers to separate accounts, cookies, and browsing sessions. Email Aliases now offer users another method to segregate information shared across various websites.

AI-generated performances are shifting from experimental to mainstream entertainment, with production companies increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence to craft characters, scenes, and entire short-form productions. This rapid change is resulting in some performers losing opportunities and, in some cases, being asked to assist in creating the AI versions that succeed them.

Proton has discovered trackers in most VPN apps available in the US.

By installing a VPN, you are trusting a company with a significant portion of your internet traffic. Many users do this for enhanced privacy, which makes Proton VPN’s recent findings quite concerning. After reviewing over 7,000 mobile VPN apps globally, Proton reports that 85% of the VPNs analyzed in the US contain trackers used for analytics, advertising, or profiling. Some of these apps can also access information such as your device ID, phone model, network type, mobile carrier, and even your physical location.
