Salesforce is placing Claude at the core of its products and incorporating itself within Claude.
Salesforce and Anthropic have revealed an expanded collaboration named Claudeforce, positioning Claude as the core of Salesforce's agent offerings while integrating Salesforce into Claude as a plugin. This formalizes an already extensive relationship, with Salesforce anticipating expenditures of approximately $300 million on Anthropic tokens this year, alongside a stake in Anthropic currently valued at around $5 billion.
In the first part of the partnership, Claude serves as the reasoning model for Salesforce’s Atlas Reasoning Engine and automatically powers Agentforce Vibes and Agentforce Coworker. It is also accessible via Agent Builder, all of which are operational as of now. For industries with regulations, there is an important deployment pathway; Claude can be utilized through Amazon Bedrock within what Salesforce refers to as its Trust Boundary, the necessary setup for banks and healthcare clients before they allow a model access to their data.
Salesforce is not the first major player to adopt Claude as a default; however, its extensive integration is notable as it encompasses the reasoning engine, agent builder, and messaging product simultaneously. Slack is given the same treatment with Claude becoming the default model there as well, powering Slackbot, the Claude Tag, and Slack Code—features that Salesforce highlights as linking team communication with autonomous actions.
Internally, Salesforce reports that Slackbot has generated 8.1 million annualized hours of productivity within the company, a number it claims has doubled each quarter. The second part of the announcement is more intriguing, presenting a plugin called Salesforce in Claude, which provides sellers with 37 prebuilt sales skills that function within Anthropic’s interface instead of Salesforce’s.
These skills address familiar elements of a sales week, including meeting preparation, deal health assessment, and pipeline review, along with capabilities to update pipelines and perform actions that Salesforce classifies as governed. The onboarding process integrates Salesforce, Slack, and connected systems to create a customized dashboard, requiring administrators to connect it once with central authentication and permissions.
The mention of governance is significant in this context. An agent that can merely read a pipeline is a simple demonstration, while one that can modify it requires permissions, an audit trail, and an administrator with the authority to revoke access—this aspect is crucial for enterprise clients who have been anticipating such features.
Commercially, this arrangement is noteworthy. For twenty-five years, Salesforce has asserted that its interface is central to enterprise work, yet it has now consented to become a component within another system. While this might seem like a concession, the alternative would be to be entirely bypassed. By making its capabilities available in a chat interface, Salesforce may find it more advantageous than being the application users switch to afterward.
“By merging Claude’s exceptional reasoning with the trusted data, workflows, and governance inherent in every enterprise, we’re offering a dynamic interface that thinks, reasons, and acts,” stated Marc Benioff, Salesforce’s chair and CEO. Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder, highlighted the data perspective, suggesting that this partnership allows companies to direct Claude towards customer data and business insights developed in Salesforce over many years, thereby using it to effectively manage and grow their operations.
For Anthropic, the primary attraction is distribution. Together, Salesforce and Slack encompass a significant share of enterprise sales and support work, translating to considerable daily engagement from a single agreement.
Currently, Salesforce and Claude are in pilot testing, with an open beta expected in September and additional prebuilt skills anticipated by late 2026. No pricing details were shared regarding any aspects of the announcement. One lingering question from Salesforce employees concerns the Claude Tag in Slack. Designating a supplier’s model as the default across your product range and making your product a feature within their system represents a substantial commitment to that supplier's continued partnership.
