Lenovo has finally equipped its gaming tablet with the OLED display it required. Now it's time to release it in the U.S.

Apple’s seventh-generation iPad mini continues to be a leading option on the iOS front, and the Red Magic Astra stands out as a clear alternative for Android users.

      Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5 is also a contender in this space, but it has lacked a feature that becomes harder to ignore on high-end tablets: OLED technology. Lenovo has now addressed this issue with a new version of the tablet that replaces the IPS panel with a 165Hz OLED display, enhancing the appeal of the compact Legion significantly.

      The downside is that this updated version has only been released in China so far. U.S. consumers are now left wondering when Lenovo intends to make it available stateside.

      OLED is a smart choice for a gaming tablet

      Named the Legion Y700 Infinite in China, the new model boasts an 8.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and a refresh rate of 165Hz. This finally brings Lenovo onto more equal ground with the Red Magic Astra, which already features a 165Hz OLED panel.

      Performance is unlikely to be an issue as well. Lenovo has integrated an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with configurations offering up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. There are some compromises when compared to the Legion Tab Gen 5 currently available in the U.S. The Infinite has a smaller 7,470mAh battery versus 9,000mAh, although it is lighter at approximately 298 grams. It supports 68W charging and maintains two USB-C ports.

      Lenovo has yet to confirm if the Y700 Infinite will be released globally. However, there is at least some optimism since the original Y700 eventually reached the U.S. market as the Legion Tab Gen 5.

      The timing could also make the compact tablet segment much more exciting. While Apple’s current iPad mini still uses an LCD screen, an OLED successor is rumored to be launched later this year. For now, Red Magic continues to be the primary OLED option for Android gamers in the U.S., but Lenovo now possesses the hardware to pose serious competition. A newly approved Apple patent titled “Input System for Portable Electronic Device” details a pressure-sensitive button capable of recognizing taps, swipes, and full presses.
