At every hardware event, there tends to be one announcement that isn’t truly groundbreaking but rather a reiteration of an existing product or service. In the case of Google’s latest launch, that item is the Pixel Buds Pro 2, now available in a fresh color.

Amidst a robust lineup of phones and devices, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 received a fifth color option today, easily the most seasonally fitting one yet.

What new features are included with the Pixel Buds Pro 2?

Named Olive, this color follows the same two-tone design approach Google has utilized since the Buds Pro 2's original release. It features a colored earbud cap with Google’s 'G' logo on top, along with a black lower body and stem. The charging case remains white on the exterior and black on the interior.

This new color joins Porcelain, Peony, Hazel, and last year’s Moonstone, all of which favor muted and earthy hues over bright and vivid shades. While the earbuds themselves are not undergoing any hardware updates, Google is taking this opportunity to introduce several software enhancements as well.

For instance, the new Dynamic ANC function adapts noise cancellation in real time if the seal of your earbud changes, ensuring that a loose fit doesn't compromise your listening experience. The Silent Seal and battery life features remain unchanged. Additionally, you can adjust settings like bass level simply by saying, “Hey Google, turn up the bass” using Gemini.

Moreover, if you own a Pixel Watch, the new sleep sync feature recognizes when you fall asleep and automatically pauses your music, disables touch controls, and silences notifications, allowing you to stay asleep.

What else did Google announce today?

The new Olive color complements the new Olive variant of the Pixel 11 Pro. Therefore, anyone purchasing the Olive Pixel 11 Pro will have a matching pair of earbuds.

In addition to the earbuds, Google fully unveiled the Pixel 11 lineup, which includes four phones powered by a new Tensor G6 chip, along with the Pixel Watch 5, which introduces a Health Guardian suite for tracking Blood Pressure and Insulin Resistance Trends starting in September.

The company also entered the personal item tracking market with the Pixel Tag, a notably slim tracker utilizing a new Bluetooth ranging technique called Channel Sounding.

This isn’t the first instance of Google coordinating the color of its earbuds with a Pixel phone; the Moonstone color matched the Pixel 10 Pro, and Berry matched the Pixel 10a.
