      Ford is launching its new AI assistant today via its mobile applications.

      If you've ever found yourself puzzled by a dashboard warning light in your car and turned to the internet for answers, Ford has a solution. The company has officially started to roll out an AI assistant today through its Ford and Lincoln apps.

      As stated by the automaker, the assistant is designed specifically to respond to genuine inquiries about your vehicle.

      So, what are the capabilities of this assistant?

      Unlike a general chatbot, Ford's AI assistant is connected directly to your vehicle. This means it can access real-time information, such as your fuel level, oil life, or tire pressure, as soon as you ask.

      You can type a question or take a photo of a dashboard error light or flat tire (using your smartphone), and it will guide you through solutions for common issues. It's worth noting that not everyone reads the car manual upon purchase or is familiar with all the warning lights on the dashboard.

      Most importantly, Ford's AI assistant can assist owners with daily warning lights and troubleshooting, help them discover new features, and enhance their understanding of their vehicles.

      How can you access it?

      The AI assistant is compatible with 2021 and newer connected Ford and Lincoln vehicles. To access it, you need to tap the Blue Oval icon with a small spark next to it in the top corner of your Ford or Lincoln app. The rollout is happening in phases rather than all at once, so you may not have immediate access.

      Ultimately, Ford aims to include around 8 million eligible owners while quickly addressing any bugs. Currently, it is only available through the app, but by next year, the company wants to integrate it directly into the dashboard, where it will work alongside navigation and media features.

      Ford has not committed to a single AI model at this time. Vehicles utilizing its Android-based infotainment system will still provide Google’s Gemini as an additional option for now.

      Considering all the use cases and the company’s ambitions to integrate it within the dashboard, I am particularly curious about whether the in-car version of the AI assistant will remain free once it launches fully next year.
