Marantz enhances its CINEMA Series 2 by introducing a new DAC, implementing Dirac Live, and improving gaming compatibility.

      AV receivers are becoming less essential for the typical living room, as contemporary TVs, home theaters, and soundbars can manage straightforward setups without the need for an extra unit.

      However, Marantz’s latest CINEMA Series 2 lineup demands your attention due to its impressive specifications and pricing. This new range, featuring four distinct models, includes enough hardware and software enhancements to entice both audiophiles and professionals.

      So, what improvements can you expect?

      All models in this lineup are equipped with a new 32-bit, eight-channel DAC that processes audio across all channels simultaneously, enhancing imaging, improving dynamics, and reducing timing errors. Additionally, gamers benefit from 1440p pass-through and AMD FreeSync, along with HDMI 2.1.

      A forthcoming firmware update will introduce Low-Latency Bluetooth LE Audio and an enhanced HEOS platform for every model. Dirac Live Room Correction, which was previously exclusive to the flagship CINEMA 50, is now available as an optional feature for the CINEMA 60, CINEMA 60 DAB, and CINEMA 70s, providing better bass management and reducing dead-center seating issues.

      Leading the series is the flagship CINEMA 50 Series 2 ($3,000), which features nine channels of amplification (with processing for 11.4 channels) and unique additions like a Dolby Atmos Channel Expander and a new Center Bi-Amp mode for improved dialogue clarity.

      This model is also the only one that supports the entire Dirac suite, which includes Bass Control and Active Room Treatment.

      Regarding pricing and availability, the core mid-range CINEMA 60 Series 2 ($2,000) is the main full-sized option for the Americas and APAC markets. It offers the platform’s upgraded DAC, Dirac Live Ready capabilities, and HDMI enhancements at a more accessible price.

      It includes full-channel preamp outputs for connecting external amplifiers. The CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2 (€1,450) is specifically designed for the European market, with the same full-size chassis, DAC architecture, and features as the standard CINEMA 60, but adds built-in DAB digital radio support.

      Completing the range, the CINEMA 70s Series 2 ($1,500) features a signature slimline design suitable for tight spaces while still providing full-channel preamp outputs and the complete core suite (32-bit DAC, Dirac Live support, and 1440p FreeSync gaming pass-through).

      All four models come in a redesigned, less plastic-intensive packaging. There’s a new Web Control 2.0 interface that allows system configuration via a smartphone or laptop. Every model except for the CINEMA 70s is set to launch on August 12, with the slimmer model following on September 15. Finally, all four variants will be available in black in North America.
