Bose has unveiled the second generation of its QuietComfort Headphones, which incorporate some features from the Ultra model.

Bose has formally introduced the QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), confirming many of the features that were leaked recently. The updated model showcases a sleeker design, enhanced noise cancellation, lossless USB-C audio, and Bose Immersive Audio modes that were previously exclusive to the higher-end QuietComfort Ultra series.

Preorders are set to start on August 8 through Bose and select retailers, priced at $359, which is just $10 higher than the launch price of the 2023 model. Shipping will commence on August 13. Along with returning Black and White Smoke colors, there are three limited-edition finishes: Eucalyptus Green, Dewdrop Mint, and Rosewood Mauve.

Bose Immersive Audio makes its way down the product line

The most significant new feature is TrueSpatial Technology, which allows standard QuietComfort headphones to utilize Bose’s Still, Motion, and Cinema audio modes. Still Mode utilizes head tracking to ensure that the audio remains fixed as the listener moves their head. Motion Mode offers a broader soundstage while following the listener, making it more appropriate for walking or commuting. Cinema Mode is tailored for films, shows, and podcasts, dispersing background sounds more widely while keeping dialogue centered and clearer.

The USB-C port now supports lossless wired playback up to 24-bit/48kHz and two-way audio, enabling voice communication during calls on Zoom or Microsoft Teams. The headphones also support Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint connectivity, and Google Fast Pair.

Improved noise cancellation for imperfect fits

Bose has named its latest active noise cancellation system QuietControl. This six-microphone setup features new adaptive controls that address gaps around the earcups caused by factors like glasses, hair, or hats, which would traditionally compromise noise cancellation. ActiveSense has also been enhanced for Aware Mode, providing smoother noise cancellation adjustments in response to sudden loud noises, such as a passing train, avoiding abrupt changes. Users can still manually control ANC or create custom modes using the Bose app.

The headphones now boast a wider headband with increased synthetic leather padding, while the newly designed oval earcups provide a more streamlined profile. Bose has maintained physical controls on both sides, including a dedicated action button for switching listening modes and activating shortcuts.

Battery life remains 24 hours, decreasing to 18 hours with Immersive Audio active. A quick 15-minute charge allows for up to 2.5 hours of playback, and the headphones can charge while being worn.
