T-Mobile's new financing plan eases initial expenses as extended payment options become more common.

Each time a carrier claims "no upfront cost," I prepare myself for fine print surprises. T-Mobile's latest 36-month financing option has one as well, though it’s presented more attractively.

T-Mobile, the second-largest wireless provider in the U.S., has introduced the EIP Flex 36 financing plan. As the name implies, it allows device payments to be spread over three years instead of the typical two. The real advantage lies in what you can avoid paying at checkout.

What changes with T-Mobile’s EIP Flex 36?

Typically, even when a carrier divides your phone’s cost, you’re still responsible for additional expenses (often termed hidden costs), such as sales tax, activation fees, or potentially an initial deposit right away.

This is precisely what makes T-Mobile’s EIP Flex 36 notable. The new plan incorporates all those costs into your monthly bill instead. If you qualify, you can leave a T-Mobile store having made no initial payment whatsoever.

It applies to a variety of phones, watches, and tablets, and you can still combine it with any ongoing device promotions from T-Mobile. A limited-time 0% APR enhances the offer, although the company hasn’t specified when the promotional period ends.

The financing term has been lengthened from 24 months to 36 months, effectively lowering your monthly payments while extending your commitment to the same device and carrier.

      Is there a downside?

While the plan seems quite attractive, the sole limitation, for now, is that the “$0 down” guarantee only applies to customers deemed well-qualified by T-Mobile. Additionally, the carrier has not detailed what other customers will owe upfront.

In addition to the new financing plan, T-Mobile has introduced Student Perks, which offers a $30-per-month single line plan with autopay and includes a bundled 5G home internet deal with a prepaid card worth up to $200.

That covers everything the carrier has announced, and I believe I understand the rationale behind it. Extending payment terms to three years right before a season filled with pricier phone launches seems more than just coincidental. Longer financing options often obscure increasing device prices by breaking them into monthly payments even as overall costs rise.

With this plan launched shortly after the higher-priced Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra releases, and just before the anticipated launches of the Pixel 11 and iPhone 18 Pro, which are expected to be priced above their predecessors, T-Mobile’s timing appears more like a strategic move to maintain customer engagement and monthly revenue flow than a pure customer-benefit initiative.

Samsung has announced a solution for the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s red tint problem, but it currently requires a store visit.

The in-person adjustment is free and can be done on the same day, but Samsung has yet to announce when an over-the-air version will be available.

Samsung has finally shared details about how to fix the reddish tint some Galaxy S26 Ultra users have observed in the center of their screens. In a notice posted on the Samsung Members app in South Korea and initially reported by SamMobile, the company stated that the issue is related to a display calibration error rather than a hardware fault.

Two approaches to resolving the issue.

The OnePlus 16 could feature a 200MP camera and a large battery.

Recent leaks about the OnePlus 16 have emerged just days apart, suggesting that this flagship model might outperform competitors with its substantial battery, alongside improved camera hardware compared to the OnePlus 15.

What’s the situation with the cameras?

RISION has unveiled new compact cameras that transform your phone into a handy thermal imaging device.

This small $119 camera gives your phone thermal vision.

If you’ve previously searched for heat leaks or hot wires, you’ve probably relied on a dedicated handheld camera. However, RISION has just released a compact camera tool to make the task simpler and more portable. It reminds me of the InfiRay device we reviewed earlier.

RISION has launched the Magic and Magic Pro, two mini thermal cameras that connect directly to compatible USB-C phones, tablets, and Windows computers. Each unit weighs 24 grams, draws power from the attached device, and requires no additional battery. It supports compatible iPhones, Android devices, and Windows PCs.
