RISION's compact new cameras transform your smartphone into a handy thermal imaging device.
If you've ever searched for heat leaks or hot wires, you likely utilized a handheld thermal camera. However, RISION has recently introduced a compact new camera tool designed to simplify this task and enhance portability. It reminds me of the InfiRay model we reviewed previously.
RISION has launched two small thermal cameras, the Magic and Magic Pro, which connect directly to compatible USB-C smartphones, tablets, and Windows computers. Each device weighs 24 grams, draws power from the connected gadget, and does not require a separate battery. Compatibility includes various iPhones, Android devices, and Windows PCs.

The more affordable Magic is intended for home inspections
RISION markets the standard Magic as an approachable choice for homeowners and DIY projects. Suggested uses encompass detecting air leaks around doors and windows, assessing insulation and underfloor heating, inspecting electrical outlets, and identifying unusual heat distributions in appliances and electronics.
It features a native thermal resolution of 160 x 120, enhanced to a 320 x 240 image using RISION's QuadIR technology. It also boasts a refresh rate of 25Hz, thermal sensitivity of 40mK or lower, and a measurement range from minus 20 to 600 degrees Celsius.

The RISION View app enables users to monitor temperatures, access calibration settings, and explore 12 color palettes. Core functionalities are available without mandatory registration, though an account might be necessary for cloud backups and multi-device access.
Both cameras merge thermal information with visible details captured by the connected device. RISION calls this feature AI BiSpectrix, and the combined image aims to make it easier to identify the component, opening, or surface causing the temperature variation.

Magic Pro steps up the professionalism
The $299 Magic Pro enhances the native resolution to 256 x 192 and delivers a processed image of 512 x 384. It can simultaneously monitor five points, five lines, and five areas, while real-time waveform graphs track temperature changes.

Thermal images retain their underlying temperature data for future analysis, and video capture can record heating, cooling, and intermittent faults. Users can also generate PDF reports that include measurements, locations, timestamps, annotations, and custom watermarks.
The RISION Magic has a suggested retail price of $139, but the company is currently offering an early-bird preorder price of $119. General sales will begin on August 24. The Magic Pro is expected to be available via RISION and Amazon in late September for $299. Early purchasers will receive an additional year of warranty coverage, extending the total to three years.
