A recent Lenovo leak has provided us with a clearer insight into Google's next move following its Chromebook venture.
Chromebooks have spent 15 years solidifying Google as a legitimate laptop platform. The leaked Lenovo Googlebook 15 indicates that the company now aims for its next generation of Android-powered devices to compete alongside premium Windows laptops without the typical compromises. This model appears different from Lenovo’s soon-to-be-released 2-in-1 tablet that recently surfaced online.
Digital Citizen acquired what it calls the complete collection of press images for the yet-to-be-announced laptop, showcasing its exterior, keyboard, ports, and a clear view of Google’s new desktop interface. Although Lenovo has not officially revealed the device, an announcement could be expected at IFA in September.
The Windows key has been replaced by Gemini.

The 15-inch laptop features Googlebook branding on its palm rest, highlighting Google’s platform more prominently than Lenovo’s standard IdeaPad or Yoga branding. A dedicated key with Google’s “G” logo replaces the Windows key, offering direct hardware access to Gemini. The Caps Lock key also functions as an app launcher, while the 14-key function row has controls for screenshots, accessibility, microphone muting, window management, and keyboard brightness.
Despite the sizeable chassis, there is no number pad, allowing the keyboard and oversized trackpad to remain centered. Lenovo has also avoided the common ultrabook issue of having only two ports. The images reveal two USB-C ports, USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader, and a headphone jack. Upward-facing speakers are branded with Dolby Atmos, and the slim webcam notch includes a physical privacy shutter. I hope this model manages to overcome the typical audio quality issues found in Windows laptops.

The leaked interface may be the most significant aspect. A phone-style status bar runs along the top, displaying battery, Wi-Fi, notifications, and Gemini icons, while a traditional taskbar is located at the bottom. This taskbar features icons for Chrome, Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Google Photos, the Play Store, Canva, and Adobe Premiere Pro. The inclusion of the Premiere Pro icon is notable and suggests potential performance capabilities. However, its presence in a promotional render does not confirm which version of Adobe’s software will be accessible or its performance level.
Google states that Googlebooks combine Android apps, ChromeOS technology, enhanced phone integration, Gemini’s Magic Pointer, and high-quality hardware from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The first models are expected to launch this fall. Specific details regarding storage, battery life, pricing, and more are still unclear, which will determine if it can compete with Windows laptops.
