Galaxy Z Fold 8: All the details we have

For a significant portion of its life, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold has addressed one issue while introducing another. This book-style foldable allows users to carry a tablet-sized display in their pocket without the bulk of an actual tablet. Unfortunately, this came with the drawback of a cover screen that was so tall and narrow that using it one-handed often felt awkward and tedious.

Furthermore, watching content on the inner screen resulted in large black bars at the top and bottom. Samsung has now rectified this with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, officially revealing a design that is shorter and wider, resembling a passport, along with a cover screen that one can comfortably type on without straining their fingers.

Samsung officially announced the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. This new design effectively replaces the “Fold 8” name, while the traditional tall-and-narrow design continues as the Fold 8 Ultra.

For the first time, Samsung has created a foldable phone that feels just as comfortable to use in its closed state as it does when opened. This timing aligns with reports that Apple is preparing to launch its own foldable, the iPhone Ultra, later this year.

      Pricing and Release Information

Samsung has set the price for the Fold 8 at $1,899.99 for the base model with 256GB of storage in the US, which is precisely what rumors had predicted. Prices increase for higher storage options, costing around $2,099.99 for 512GB and $2,499 for the 1TB model.

This pricing directly competes with current-generation foldables from Motorola and Google, as well as Samsung's own Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Pre-orders began on July 22, 2026, coinciding with the announcement, and the phone will be available to the public on August 7, 2026. It can be purchased through platforms such as Amazon, Best Buy, Samsung Experience Stores, Samsung.com, and through carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

      Design

The design of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 marks a significant shift from previous Samsung releases, especially within the book-style foldable category. Earlier Fold models were tall and slender, resembling candy bars rather than books. The Fold 8 effectively addresses this issue.

The confirmed dimensions are 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5mm when unfolded and 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7mm when folded. Weighing only 201 grams, this is now Samsung's lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date. Samsung has utilized materials that emphasize weight reduction, resulting in a phone that feels less top-heavy compared to previous models.

Flex Titanium has also been integrated, blending a titanium-alloy film with a titanium plate to strengthen the display, minimize crease visibility, and enhance the unfolding experience.

The frame features Advanced Armor Aluminum, with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the front and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, plus an IP48 rating for protection against water and dust.
