The president of OpenAI has announced that a range of ChatGPT devices will be released soon.

      Brockman has not confirmed the rumors about a smart speaker, but he is already envisioning something larger than just one device.

      In a conversation with Joanna Stern on her YouTube channel, OpenAI president Greg Brockman expressed that the company is not limiting itself to a single device. He hinted that a complete range of devices is forthcoming. When Stern mentioned the speculations regarding an AI smart speaker, Brockman neither confirmed nor denied it. Instead, he stated, “we’re building a family of devices,” emphasizing that the goal is to provide value over time rather than focusing on one particular product. Regarding the timeline for a launch, Brockman remained vague, merely indicating, “you should expect them soon.”

      Since OpenAI is allegedly collaborating with former Apple design chief Jony Ive on these devices, and Apple has filed a lawsuit against the company over claims of trade secret theft, the inquiry was inevitable. Brockman refrained from delving into specifics due to the ongoing litigation, but he clarified that OpenAI is not overly concerned about it. He mentioned the company’s focus on its own development and technology, stating, “we have no interest in other companies’ trade secrets. We are plenty innovative.”

      Brockman also shared insights into the rationale behind this hardware ambition. He believes that speaking will soon surpass typing for interacting with our devices, describing it as a much more intuitive method of communication with machines.

      He even referenced the noise-canceling “beak” masks that some office employees use to speak with their computers without disturbing those nearby. Although he does not use one himself, he acknowledged that it “shows you where there’s product market fit,” even if it may appear somewhat absurd.

      On the trust issue, Brockman stated that OpenAI is investing in technology that provides verifiable and auditable assurances, ensuring that only the AI accesses your private information. This should alleviate some concerns regarding the privacy of ChatGPT's temporary chat mode.
