Cyera acquires Oasis Security for $1 billion to monitor AI agents.

Every AI agent that a company activates requires an identity to log in and access data. Many enterprises now manage millions of these agents, making it almost impossible to monitor them effectively. This gap in oversight has just been valued at $1 billion.

The data security firm Cyera has reached an agreement to acquire Oasis Security for approximately $1 billion, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal. This transaction involves a combination of cash and stock, with about $700 million in cash. The companies anticipate the deal will be finalized later this year.

      Acquiring the ‘non-human identity’ component

Cyera has insight into the data a company possesses and which parts are sensitive. Oasis specializes in managing “non-human identities,” which are the accounts utilized by machines and AI agents to access that data. By merging these two capabilities, Cyera envisions a unified system that determines what every individual, machine, and agent is permitted to see and do.

This is the core proposition, and the timing strengthens the case. According to Cyera, non-human identities within large corporations surged nearly 500% in just six months, now ranking as the fastest-growing type of account in the enterprise sector. Most organizations are using identity tools meant for human users, rather than for software capable of generating thousands of agents.

      A cyber land grab

This deal marks the largest yet in the rush to secure AI agents. Investment is flooding into this space, from Neo’s $100 million funding round to smaller investments like NeuralTrust’s seed funding, as reported by TechCrunch. Oasis, which was founded in 2022, claims to be the quickest cybersecurity company to reach a $1 billion valuation from its inception.

It also reflects a broader trend. Cybersecurity mergers and acquisitions are on track for a banner year. Cyera is not the sole company acquiring smaller firms to create a comprehensive AI-security platform.

      Growth purchased, not achieved

Cyera's aggressive acquisition strategy is made possible by ongoing investments. The company raised $600 million in June, achieving a valuation of $12 billion, and has now secured approximately $2.3 billion in total funding, according to CRN. Oasis represents its fifth acquisition in recent months, following Genie Security, Ryft, Trail Security, and several others.

However, there is a caution regarding this momentum. Cyera remains unprofitable, with its $12 billion valuation translating to around 80 times its revenue. The premise relies on millions of agents that have not yet materialized. The expectation is that they will emerge, and that a mechanism is needed to determine what each agent can access.
