OnePlus is developing another flagship powerhouse for a dwindling audience, with a launch anticipated in October.

OnePlus 16 might debut in October, but its release outside China remains uncertain.

While OnePlus has pulled out of the US and Europe, the brand continues to thrive in its home territory and is actively developing its next flagship device. A recent leak from the Chinese source Digital Chat Station has provided additional insights into the OnePlus 16’s design and an updated release timeline.

Initially, it was suggested that the phone would launch in September 2026, but new information indicates an October release in China (via Gizmochina). The global availability is much less certain, with emerging doubts about whether the OnePlus 16 will reach India, which is the company’s largest market.

What changes might come with the OnePlus 16?

The OnePlus 16 is expected to maintain the overall design style of the OnePlus 15, although the rear camera housing may be reduced to a small square module. On the front, the device is likely to feature a flat 6.78-inch display encased by narrow and uniform bezels.

Previously leaked details indicated that the display could achieve 185Hz, with reports suggesting that OnePlus is testing capabilities for up to 240Hz. Both of these rates would significantly surpass the 165Hz display found on the OnePlus 15.

Other hardware specifications seem equally impressive. The phone might be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, anticipated to be manufactured using a 2nm process. There have been multiple mentions of a battery capacity close to 9,000mAh. The rear camera array may feature a 200MP main shooter, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens that offers 3.5x optical zoom.

Will the OnePlus 16 release outside of China?

OnePlus has already announced that it will cease launching new products in North America and Europe. Issues such as patent disputes, increasing marketing expenses, and fierce competition from Samsung and Google reportedly contributed to the brand's exit from these markets.

Current OnePlus owners will continue to receive software updates and warranty support. The company has also stated that eligible devices will eventually have the option to transition from OxygenOS to Oppo’s ColorOS via future updates.

Operations in India are ongoing for now, but a recent leak implies that the OnePlus 16 may not be available in that market. It’s important to note that none of this information is official, so the revised launch date and availability details should be taken with caution.
