Google might soon allow you to unlock your Pixel Watch using your phone.

A feature under development could reverse the existing Watch Unlock function, allowing a verified phone to unlock the watch automatically.

If you've configured a PIN on your Pixel Watch, you are likely familiar with the prompt that appears each time you put it back on your wrist. While this is an effective security feature, having to enter a PIN on that small screen multiple times daily can be tiresome. A recent report indicates that Google might be devising a way to bypass this.

      Reverse Watch Unlock

In an exploration of Google's Connected Phone & Watch services app, Android Authority discovered an upcoming feature that could enable you to unlock your Pixel Watch using your phone. This would essentially reverse the existing Watch Unlock feature, which allows a connected Pixel Watch to unlock your phone.

This new feature is believed to be located within the same app that manages other wrist-based functionalities, such as the anticipated Left Behind alert, which likely explains its association with Pixel devices. Thus, it could be limited to Pixel Watches paired with a Pixel phone rather than being available across all Wear OS devices.

      Potential Functionality

According to the code snippets, the Phone to Watch Unlock feature would require an initial setup, similar to the existing Watch Unlock. After entering the watch's PIN once, the connected phone would automatically handle the unlocking process. The code also hints that Google might actively inform users about this feature once it is ready.

It seems that Google has planned for device upgrades; migrating to a newer Pixel Watch model could automatically activate the feature on the new device without requiring the user to go through the setup again. However, since this feature was identified in an APK teardown, the final version may still change before it reaches users.

While Google has not officially disclosed any details, the company might introduce this feature alongside the Pixel Watch 5 at the upcoming Made by Google event on August 12.

In other news, a new iPhone app can detect Meta smart glasses nearby.

Your iPhone can now monitor the glasses that are observing you. Earlier this year, Android users received an unusual privacy tool that could inform them of nearby smart glasses. Now, iPhone users finally have a comparable option, with a name that expresses its stance on Meta quite clearly.

AntiZuck is a $2.99 iPhone application that scans for Bluetooth signals from smart glasses and notifies you when one is nearby. It supports devices such as Meta Ray-Bans, Snap Spectacles, Amazon Echo Frames, and RayNeo glasses, with the developer mentioning that additional devices are being integrated.

Apple’s smartwatches are expected to maintain the same appearance for at least another year or two.

Reports indicate that Apple's Series 12 and Ultra 4 will not undergo a redesign this year, with chip upgrades and health tracking functionalities being the focus for this generation.

For several years, every Apple Watch model has looked nearly identical to its predecessor. The Apple Watch Series 11 shared dimensions and aesthetics with the Watch 10, which, in turn, mirrored the Watch 9. This pattern may remain unbroken in 2026 as well.

So, what changes can we expect this year?

Additionally, Apple’s smart glasses are facing delays due to concerns over privacy.

Apple is taking additional time to ensure that its smart glasses do not inherit Meta's negative associations related to privacy.

According to Bloomberg, Apple could reveal its first smart glasses at WWDC in June 2027, with a consumer release scheduled for later in the year. Initially, the device, codenamed N50, was expected to be introduced toward the end of 2026 and launched in early 2027.

Part of the delay is attributed to Apple’s engineering and marketing teams dedicating more time to refine the product and address the privacy issues associated with integrating cameras into eyewear. Privacy is reported as the primary concern for the teams working on these glasses.
