      Geekbench, the well-known cross-platform benchmark by Primate Labs, has just received a significant update. Geekbench 7 is now available, and you can download it on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. If you're interested in how your CPU and GPU compare, this update introduces several important changes.

      What’s new in the CPU tests?

      Geekbench 7 includes new media workloads that replicate real-world tasks like video conferencing and podcast listening. These workload models feature tasks such as encoding for screen sharing, Opus compression for voice messages, and live caption generation using the Whisper speech recognition model while decoding video.

      Additionally, a new Game Physics workload is based on the Jolt Physics engine, the same one utilized in popular video games. The Photo Editor test now encompasses more realistic edits, while the Photo Library workload supports newer formats like JPEG XL and DNG.

      The multi-core benchmark has also been enhanced. Rather than force-feeding every workload into a multi-threaded test, Geekbench 7 only executes a task in multi-core mode if it aligns with actual app behavior. For instance, since web browsers are primarily single-threaded, the HTML5 Browser test entirely bypasses the multi-core suite. This should yield a score that accurately reflects real-world performance instead of an inflated figure.

      Did the GPU benchmark receive improvements as well?

      The GPU test now emphasizes machine learning and content creation tasks, such as face tracking with filters, ML-based image upscaling, and background blur for video calls. There are also new tests for RAW image processing, LUT-based color grading, path tracing, and fluid simulation.

      The most significant addition here could be CUDA support, joining OpenCL, Vulkan, and Metal. NVIDIA GPU owners can finally assess their cards using the API that their most demanding applications depend on.

      Geekbench has also updated its datasets comprehensively, incorporating larger and more varied archives along with a broader assortment of PDFs and images, allowing your device to be tested against files that closely reflect what you actually use today.
