The grand opening took place on July 21, and Nvidia claims this is the first site in the U.S. where the GB300 has been manufactured and mass-produced.

      The GB300 is the leading chip in Nvidia’s data center lineup, and Fort Worth is also set to produce its future version, the Vera Rubin superchips, which are expected to succeed the Blackwell. This development represents a significant endorsement of domestically produced chips, an area that barely existed at this scale a year ago.

      This launch is part of a broader trend of onshoring. Nvidia pledged in 2025 to invest $500 billion in American manufacturing and AI infrastructure over four years, drawing its suppliers to Texas. Wistron’s factory stands as a tangible result, being a fully operational facility rather than just a memorandum of understanding.

      The facility spans approximately 324,000 square feet (about 30,100 square meters). Wistron aims to scale production to tens of thousands of computing boards monthly, according to Nvidia, which described Fort Worth as its partner’s initial U.S. manufacturing base. The plant has already generated over 500 jobs in construction, plumbing, electrical, and manufacturing, with the workforce anticipated to reach 1,000 by the year’s end.

      Wistron has branded the site as its D1 Smart Factory. Chairman Simon Lin stated, “The operation here is not typical manufacturing. It is new, very comprehensive, and high-tech.” He emphasized speed as a critical factor, noting, “In the AI era, the pressure of speed is also a form of responsibility. We don’t just need to build quickly; we need to do it correctly.” Lin also highlighted Fort Worth’s importance for Wistron’s future, mentioning that “in the next couple of years, this location will be one of the most important as we build AI infrastructure here in the United States.”

      Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, succinctly conveyed that “manufacturing is an essential pillar for every economy and every country.” Building correctly, in this context, meant constructing the factory twice. Before breaking ground, Wistron created a digital twin of the entire facility utilizing Nvidia’s Omniverse simulation software, allowing them to test layouts and workflows virtually before any physical building commenced.

      This recursive detail is typical of Nvidia’s approach: its software was used to design the factory that produces the chips running the software. The product itself is substantial; Huang described a single GB300 system as composed of "one-and-a-half million parts inside, weighing two tons, and costing four million dollars.”

      Scaling up production to tens of thousands of boards per month from a standstill poses more of a logistical challenge than a typical factory ramp-up, especially with a deadline. Investors responded positively, with Wistron’s shares increasing in Taiwan following the opening, underscoring that the AI sector extends beyond the chip designers to the contract manufacturers, assemblers, and suppliers that integrate the systems.

      Fort Worth is rapidly evolving into a center for this expansion, benefiting from a series of AI infrastructure projects, including an $810 million data center bond raise nearby, as affordable land and power draw computing operations to Texas.

      This demand has also impacted the supply chain, tightening the market for the high-bandwidth memory necessary for Grace Blackwell components. The next phase will involve ramping up production, as Wistron needs to increase board output throughout 2026, expand its workforce to a thousand employees, and prepare for Vera Rubin manufacturing, all while the factory is still establishing its workflow.

      For now, the more symbolic fact is quite straightforward: an Nvidia superchip, which previously only came into the country as an import, is now being assembled in Texas.
