Gemini Omni powers new editing tools for Google Vids, along with the introduction of personal avatars.
Google is integrating Gemini Omni and personal avatars into Google Vids, enhancing the app's AI-driven video creation features for paid subscribers. Gemini Omni can now generate and edit clips using natural language input, while personal avatars enable users to appear in videos without the need for on-camera recording.
Previously, Vids included Veo-powered video generation, AI presenters, screen recording, and tools for converting Slides presentations into narrated videos. The addition of Omni enriches this setup with a more comprehensive editing workflow, allowing users to refine clips through dialogue rather than starting over with each adjustment.
"Today, we are introducing Gemini Omni and personal avatars to Google Vids 🎥. Now you can generate high-quality clips with simple prompts, interact to edit them incrementally, and create a digital avatar that resembles and sounds like you." — Google (@Google), July 16, 2026.
Gemini Omni manages the entire editing process.
Gemini Omni was unveiled at Google I/O 2026 as a versatile content model capable of processing text, images, sketches, voice recordings, and existing footage. In Google Vids, users can start by describing the desired clip and providing reference images for greater control over the outcome.
Once the initial version is completed, users can continue chatting with Omni to change backgrounds, enhance lighting, add effects, or modify specific elements of the scene. The same tools are also applicable to videos recorded on a mobile device.
This conversational method gives Omni an edge over simpler video generators. Each new instruction builds upon the previous one, helping to maintain continuity of appearance, setting, and subjects throughout multiple edits. It also alleviates much of the technical complexity associated with traditional editing software like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro.
Now, you can create an avatar resembling you.
Personal avatars add another appealing feature to Vids. By uploading a selfie and a brief voice recording, and typing a script, users can have Google create a digital version of themselves to present on screen. This functionality could be useful for training videos, product showcases, company updates, or presentations when one lacks the time or resources to record appropriately.
Gemini Omni and personal avatars are accessible to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers as well as eligible Workspace business clients. Personal avatars are limited to adults in select regions and must reflect the account holder's likeness. Each generated clip also includes an invisible SynthID watermark.
