Red Magic has officially announced the global launch details for the Astra 2 gaming tablet. Previously released in China as the Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, it will become available in international markets later this summer.
Early Bird vouchers are set to be released in mid-August, followed by priority access and the broader global sale at the end of August via Red Magic's website and select retailers.
What can you expect from the Red Magic Astra 2?
The Astra 2 has a starting price of $699 or €699, and will be available in configurations of 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB. With a 9.06-inch OLED display, its size is more comparable to an iPad mini than the larger 11-inch or 13-inch tablets that are prevalent in the market. This smaller design is well-suited for gaming, as it is easier to hold during extended play sessions.
For comparison, the current iPad mini starts at $599, only $100 less than the Astra 2. Apple’s upcoming compact tablet is expected to feature an OLED display but is likely to remain limited to a 60Hz refresh rate. In contrast, Red Magic’s display boasts a 2.4K resolution, a 185Hz refresh rate, and a remarkable 2,000Hz touch-sampling rate, making it ideal for fast-paced gaming.
Performance is driven by Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, combined with Red Magic’s RedCore R4 gaming chip. An 8,300mAh battery provides power, and the global version supports 75W fast charging and includes two USB-C ports for added convenience. Additional features encompass stereo speakers and Red Magic OS 11.5 based on Android 16.
Cooling remains a key feature.
Cooling is a standout characteristic of the Astra 2. It is equipped with the “AquaCore Cooling System 2.0,” utilizing a blend of liquid cooling, liquid metal, an upgraded vapor chamber, and software-based thermal management to sustain performance during prolonged gaming sessions.
Early Bird customers will receive an 80W charger and a Red Magic keychain. Specific sale dates, regional pricing, and color options will be revealed closer to the launch.
