      Apple Arcade introduces Madden NFL 27 along with Retro Bowl College+ and NFL Retro Bowl ’27

      Madden has been on mobile devices for many years, but the mobile versions have not matched the depth of the main console editions. EA is bringing a more comprehensive version to Apple Arcade with Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition, set to launch on August 6.

      According to EA, the game emphasizes complete NFL seasons, franchise management, and 11-on-11 games. Players can handle trades, free agency, and roster adjustments before guiding their team through the regular season and playoffs. For those who wish to bypass management elements, Quick Play is also an option for instant exhibition matches.

      In contrast to Madden NFL Mobile, the Apple Arcade version will be free of ads and in-app purchases. Retro Bowl College+ will also launch on the same date, with NFL Retro Bowl ’27 arriving on September 3.

      What makes NFL 27 Arcade Edition unique?

      Franchise mode is where the Apple Arcade version shines. Players will oversee trades, free agency, roster management, and the typical responsibilities associated with running an NFL team. EA is also incorporating a Narrative Messaging System that will present various scenarios during the season. These scenarios may relate to player performance, coaching decisions, roster adjustments, or other franchise-related events. Some decisions may be minor, like holding a press conference or engaging with the coaching staff, but they can still impact the course of the season.

      EA will also launch monthly custom franchises centered around different themes. The inaugural theme, called Off-Season, begins with a fantasy draft, challenging players to construct a team from the ground up. Live roster updates and weekly rating adjustments are anticipated throughout the NFL season.

      Full controller support is another significant feature that should enhance gameplay on Apple TV. Progress will be transferable across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro.

      What about the other two games?

      Retro Bowl College+ will also be released on August 6. This pixel-art football game allows players to take on the role of head coach for one of 250 college teams and build their reputation over multiple seasons.

      NFL Retro Bowl ’27 will follow on September 3 with a new Gauntlet Mode. In this mode, players start with limited resources and aim to maintain a 15-game winning streak. Each attempt requires choosing between safer matchups and tougher opponents with greater rewards.

      Player XP and abilities will persist after a defeat, providing a stronger foundation for the next attempt. Weekly leaderboards will highlight the highest-scoring runs.
