You no longer require Willow’s Pro plan to have unlimited AI dictation on your iPhone.

Willow has announced that its iOS keyboard app now provides free, unlimited AI dictation, although this update has not been fully implemented yet.

The AI dictation app Willow introduced its voice keyboard for iOS last November, offering iPhone users a more dependable method for voice typing compared to Apple's built-in dictation feature. Upon its launch, the app imposed a weekly word cap on dictation, with unlimited usage available only through the $15 per month Pro subscription. This restriction has now been removed, allowing iPhone users to access unlimited AI dictation without needing to subscribe to the Pro plan.

The weekly word limit on AI dictation has been eliminated.

In a recent post on X, Willow announced that unlimited AI dictation is now available for free in its iOS keyboard app. The keyboard enables users to dictate in any application on their iPhone, extending beyond just Willow’s own interface. This means it can be used for sending texts, writing emails, making notes, or creating social media posts without needing to switch apps.

Willow also highlights that the feature aims to help users work more efficiently, asserting its dictation speed is up to three times quicker than traditional typing. Furthermore, the company claims its Frontier Mini model transcribes text more accurately and rapidly than competitors like Wispr Flow, OpenAI, and Deepgram, although these claims stem from Willow’s own assessments and lack independent verification.

Why are you paying for dictation? We’re introducing free, unlimited AI dictation. And it’s a fast, cloud-based model with zero data retention.       In another post, Willow explains that its Frontier Mini model operates in the cloud, resulting in faster processing compared to tools that handle speech locally on devices, and it retains no data. This means that voice recordings are not stored on Willow’s servers after transcription.

However, the pricing update has not yet been fully reflected in the app.

As of now, Willow’s settings still display a prompt to subscribe to the Pro plan to access unlimited dictation, which contradicts the public announcement. It remains unclear whether Willow has not yet updated the app or if some limitations still exist.

The availability of free AI dictation tools has surged recently, with Google recently launching its own no-cost option, AI Edge Eloquent. If Willow’s free, unlimited feature performs as promised once the rollout is complete, iPhone users will have less incentive to pay for voice typing.
