Qualcomm chips may power the Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2

Samsung's forthcoming Galaxy Watches might be pricier than previous models, but recent leaks indicate that consumers will actually see significant hardware enhancements for the additional cost.

WinFuture reports that it has acquired the technical specs for both the Galaxy Watch 9 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Samsung is expected to replace its Exynos processors, boost the battery capacity on certain models, and implement upgraded connectivity hardware across the entire lineup.

Samsung might finally move away from Exynos for its Galaxy Watches

All three watches are rumored to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite processor rather than a Samsung-designed Exynos chip. The five-core SW6100 is built on a 3nm process and consists of one performance core operating at up to 2.1GHz, paired with four efficiency cores that can reach 1.95GHz.

Qualcomm claims that this platform offers significantly improved CPU and graphics performance compared to its last wearable chip. It contains a dedicated NPU designed for executing AI features directly on the device and promises up to 30% extended battery life, though actual performance will depend on Samsung's configurations.

The processor is expected to be coupled with 2GB of RAM and options for either 32GB or 64GB of storage. Display sizes and resolutions seem to remain mostly unchanged; the 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 will have a 438 x 438 display, while the 44mm variant and 47mm Ultra 2 will feature 480 x 480 panels.

The Ultra 2 receives the long-awaited battery enhancement

Battery upgrades will vary notably among the models. The 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 is said to keep the same 325mAh capacity as its predecessor, while the 44mm model will see a slight increase to 445mAh.

Samsung appears to be allocating the most significant battery upgrade to the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which is expected to boost its capacity from 590mAh to 800mAh, representing an increase of over 35%. When paired with the more efficient Snapdragon processor, the larger battery could yield a substantial improvement in battery performance. This figure matches an earlier leak from SamMobile that cited a rated capacity of 784mAh, which Samsung might round off to 800mAh.

Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and dual-band Wi-Fi are reportedly standard features across the lineup, while the cellular versions will continue to support LTE. The Galaxy Watch 9 models will feature aluminum cases and provide 5 ATM water resistance. In contrast, the Ultra 2 is expected to use titanium extensively, giving it a higher 10 ATM rating.

WinFuture has previously indicated that European pricing could start at €409 for the 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 and €439 for the 44mm version, with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 possibly priced at €749. Samsung has yet to confirm the watches, their specifications, or their pricing, but official details are anticipated to be revealed at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
