Slate’s new electric truck colors resemble those from a Crayola box.

Slate Auto and Crayola have joined forces to give a lively makeover to the budget-friendly electric truck.

If any electric truck could use a burst of color, it’s Slate’s model. The startup, supported by Bezos, has revealed a new collaboration with Crayola, incorporating the crayon maker's distinctive color palette into its simplistic electric pickup. Notably, one of the colors offered is named Razzmatazz.

From 64 crayons to four wheels

This partnership presents five limited-edition wrap kits inspired by beloved Crayola hues: Cerulean, Dandelion, Fern, Jersey Tomato, and Razzmatazz. Marking Crayola’s first collaboration with an automotive brand, this is one of the more surprising brand partnerships we've encountered in a while.

The vibrant redesign aligns well with Slate’s philosophy. Unlike typical vehicles, the company’s electric truck comes unpainted from the factory, featuring a gray composite finish aimed at reducing costs and encouraging owners to customize the exterior with vinyl wraps rather than costly paint jobs.

More than just a colorful wrap

Each Crayola wrap kit is priced at $1,550 and includes more than just the exterior wrap. Purchasers also receive matching decals, a color-coordinated key fob cap, and a small dashboard accessory called a “Slatelet.” The wraps will be available in the company's online marketplace alongside its expanding array of over 200 accessories, emphasizing Slate’s concept of treating the truck as a customizable gadget rather than a fixed product.

The truck itself retains its specifications beneath the vibrant new exterior. It has a starting price of $24,950, an estimated range of 205 miles, a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, and features a deliberately minimalist cabin with manual windows and no central touchscreen — all designed to maintain an affordable price. Deliveries are still anticipated to commence later this year, with the majority of customer orders expected by 2027.

Interestingly, while most automakers focus on larger batteries, faster charging, and more horsepower, Slate has managed to capture attention by simply asking: What if an electric truck came in Crayola colors? It may not increase the truck's speed, but it certainly makes it easier to spot in a parking lot.

Self-driving vehicles continue to obstruct emergency responders, leading to frustration from government officials.

Robotaxis are meant to enhance road safety, yet first responders report that they're becoming a significant challenge. While self-driving cars are expected to create safer roads, evidence suggests the contrary. NHTSA administrator Jonathan Morrison recently sent a letter to autonomous vehicle developers, firmly criticizing the trend of driverless cars interfering with emergency scenes as "unacceptable," noting that vehicles unable to manage emergency situations pose a risk to everyone nearby.

Xiaomi has produced an SUV that converts into a camping tent, boasting impressive range figures.

Featuring a pop-up camping roof, 300 miles of electric range, and a gas extender for remote adventures, Xiaomi has transitioned from smartphone sales to profitable electric vehicle production in just two years, a feat that took Tesla a decade. The automaker has introduced a new EV sub-brand called Sky Nomad to cater to outdoor and family lifestyles. What’s particularly fascinating is that the first vehicle from this lineup may include a built-in retractable roof that transforms into a camping tent.

Chinese EV manufacturer Chery will replace the entire vehicle if battery-related fire damage occurs.

This bold warranty promise reflects the brand’s urgent effort to regain customers’ trust. Chinese automaker Chery has made a remarkable commitment in the EV sector: if a battery fire damages your vehicle, the customer will receive a completely new car, without any conditions or fine print related to fault. While it sounds like a marketing strategy, the company supports this claim with reliable engineering.
