Following Samsung and Apple, Oppo may soon be the next to enter the extensive foldable market.
Oppo could disrupt Samsung and Apple’s expanding foldable market
Samsung is said to be gearing up to launch a shorter and wider foldable device, while Apple’s first foldable iPhone is rumored to adopt a wide, passport-like format as well. Recently, a new leak indicates that Oppo might be developing a similar device, further increasing the number of brands in this segment.
This information comes from the well-known Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, who asserts that Oppo is working on a wide-screen foldable expected to debut in the first quarter of 2027.
The battery could be a notable feature
The Oppo Find N2 was considered a wide foldable for its era.
The unnamed device is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, recognized by the model number SM8950. The leak also mentions a dedicated AI accelerator for managing demanding on-device tasks. However, the standout feature may be its substantial battery, estimated at around 6,500mAh.
This capacity would be impressive for any foldable, likely necessitating the use of silicon-carbon battery technology to avoid an overly thick device. The source did not disclose information regarding charging speeds, dimensions, camera specs, or confirmed display sizes. For context, the Motorola Razr Fold featured one of the largest batteries in foldable phones, peaking at 6,000mAh.
This device could be named the Find N7, and similar to the current Find N6 foldable, it may feature a seamless hinge designed to reduce the visible crease on the display.
Wide foldables are gaining popularity
Wide foldables replace the tall designs of devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a more compact, tablet-like shape. This format may offer a superior experience for viewing movies, playing games, and more. Huawei has already ventured into this space with the Pura X Max, which includes a 5.5-inch outer display that expands into a 7.6-inch 16:10 screen. Samsung’s upcoming Fold 8 series and Apple’s anticipated foldable are expected to broaden the appeal of this design.
