Marshall updates its Acton and Stanmore speakers, enhancing bass quality and ease of repair.

The latest Acton IV and Stanmore IV from Marshall feature enhanced acoustics, support for Auracast, and a design that is easier to repair.

Marshall has updated two of its most popular wireless speakers with the introduction of the Acton IV and Stanmore IV, which come with several significant enhancements that go beyond increasing their volume. Along with better bass and clearer sound, Marshall is also prioritizing repairability, allowing users to replace various external components rather than needing to buy a new speaker entirely.

      Improved sound, smarter design

Both speakers are outfitted with upgraded tweeters, revamped internal acoustics, and newly designed bass ports that Marshall claims provide clearer vocals, wider sound distribution, and enhanced low frequencies. The Acton IV features a 4-inch woofer and two tweeters, while the larger Stanmore IV is equipped with a 5-inch woofer for larger spaces and richer bass. Both models incorporate Dynamic Loudness, which automatically adjusts the tonal balance as the volume changes, ensuring that music maintains its quality even at lower volumes.

      Marshall

Marshall has also included several practical enhancements. The new Placement Compensation feature can optimize sound based on the speaker's location, while Bluetooth LE Audio with Auracast support facilitates audio broadcasting to multiple compatible speakers. Additionally, the Stanmore IV retains HDMI ARC, functioning as a television speaker, and Marshall's companion app allows users to adjust the EQ, manage speaker placement, and receive future software updates.

The design has also seen refinements. The power cable now comes out of the bottom instead of the back, allowing both speakers to sit flush against a wall. More importantly, components like the front grille, control knobs, and speaker feet can now be replaced if damaged, which is a significant step towards prolonging the speakers' lifespan rather than necessitating a complete replacement.

      More connected than ever

In terms of connectivity, both speakers support Bluetooth Auracast, making it simpler to synchronize music across multiple compatible devices. They also work with Marshall's Heddon Wi-Fi streaming hub, enabling direct streaming from platforms like Spotify Connect and TIDAL, although Apple Music playback still requires a connected smartphone.

      Marshall

The Acton IV is available for $299.99, while the Stanmore IV is priced at $399.99, both now offered through Marshall. In a market where many speaker upgrades focus solely on sound quality, it is refreshing to see Marshall considering longevity as well. While enhanced bass is always appreciated, making a product easier to repair might be the more significant long-term improvement.

I initially had reservations about clip-style open earbuds, but after trying my first pair, I can’t envision going back.

No pressure, no feeling of blockage, and no discomfort. After months of everyday use, open-air audio ear clips have solidified their place in my routine.

I wouldn't classify myself as an audiophile. I don't get caught up in terms like LDAC and DSEE upscaling; to me, they are just functional gadgets. However, I realized that I started focusing less on the sound quality of earbuds and began to pay more attention to how seamlessly they fit into my daily life.

Many products in this category focus heavily on bass, noise cancellation, and an array of features, leaving comfort as an overlooked element. Recently, I had the opportunity to try the Baseus Bowie MC2, my first pair of earclip-style earbuds, which was a revelation for me. I purchased them from Amazon for $40, making it an affordable investment. The leap of faith I took was well worth it.
