The desktop workstation is expected to feature an M5 Ultra this year, followed by an M7 Ultra later, along with a redesigned heat sink.
Apple’s Mac Studio may not see a new appearance in the near future, but it could be undergoing a significant upgrade where it counts the most. Mark Gurman revealed in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter that Apple is set to introduce an M5 Ultra-powered Mac Studio as soon as this year, with plans for an even more robust M7 Ultra version on the roadmap for 2028. Notably, the report also mentions that Apple is redesigning a component that most users are unlikely to notice: the heat sink.
Increased power is on the way, and Apple wants to keep it cool
Gurman states that the upcoming M5 Ultra Mac Studio will not undergo a major external redesign. Instead, Apple is reportedly concentrating on internal enhancements, including a redesigned heat sink, to better manage the increased power of its next-generation Ultra chip.
Apple’s plans for the Mac Studio involve an M5 Ultra model potentially arriving this year and an M7 Ultra model expected in 2028. Additionally, Apple is working on a new heat sink design to effectively handle the extra power.
That logic makes sense. As Apple’s silicon technology advances, professional tasks like 8K video editing, 3D rendering, software development, and on-device AI modeling demand ever more power. Improved thermal management could enable the Mac Studio to maintain peak performance for longer durations without throttling under significant loads.
The roadmap doesn’t stop there. Gurman also mentions that Apple is already planning an M7 Ultra Mac Studio for 2028, indicating that the company is thinking several generations ahead for its flagship desktop workstation.
If it’s not broken, don’t redesign it
If you were hoping for a dramatic redesign, you might need to be patient. Gurman notes that Apple seems content with the current Mac Studio design, opting to enhance the internal components rather than radically change the hardware itself.
Honestly, this may be the right decision. The Mac Studio’s compact aluminum design has remained quite effective since its launch, and professionals looking to buy are much more focused on sustained performance rather than aesthetic updates. If Apple can provide a faster Ultra chip with improved cooling while maintaining the same size, it could be precisely the upgrade Mac Studio users have been awaiting.

A YouTuber has 3D printed an entire outfit, but the comfort and cost aspects are more complex than expected
The 3D-printed outfit is genuine. However, discussing its practicality opens a different dialogue entirely.
YouTuber Matthew Trahan has carved out a niche in 3D printing increasingly unconventional items. He has created musical instruments, furniture, and, in one particularly notable video, himself. His most recent endeavor is a complete outfit, from shirt to shoes, belt to glasses, as if nobody informed him that 3D printers are intended for producing engineering prototypes or impractical structures, not for fashion events.

The memory crisis isn't expected to improve, and you will bear the costs, according to a research firm
Anticipate prices increasing by 40 to 50% this quarter, 30 to 40% more the next quarter, with no real relief until 2028. Plan accordingly.
If you were optimistic that the memory crisis was about to subside, I have disappointing news. It originates directly from Wall Street. Your upcoming smartphone, laptop, or tablet could face even higher costs, even if they’ve recently seen price hikes.

Apple’s historically high costs for RAM upgrades on Macs have now reached absurd levels
Mac RAM upgrade prices have doubled due to the global memory shortage
Apple's Mac RAM upgrades were already expensive enough to raise concerns. Following the company's latest price increases, some upgrades now appear ridiculous. Apple has recently increased prices across its Mac and iPad lineup and other products, citing the rising costs of memory and storage. The supply shortage is genuine, but Mac buyers were paying steep premiums for RAM and SSD upgrades long before these recent increases. Recent configuration screenshots of the MacBook Pro shared by 9to5Mac illustrate how much more challenging the upgrade process has become.
