Meta introduces its own smart glasses, one of which is designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner.
Celebrity collaborations are trending right now. Whoop has partnered with Cristiano Ronaldo, Beats with Kim Kardashian, and Google has teamed up with NBA superstar Steph Curry for the Fitbit Air. Now, Meta is joining the trend. Today, the company unveiled Meta Glasses, the first smart glasses created exclusively in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, free from any third-party fashion branding.
Previously, the smart glasses offered by Meta have carried either the Oakley or Ray-Ban branding. This new iteration showcases Meta’s logo and comes with an exciting celebrity endorsement. For these latest smart glasses, Meta has collaborated with internet sensation Kylie Jenner, branding the model as Meta Glasses by Kylie. Additionally, two other styles are available: Adventurer and Fury.
This launch is significant as it represents Meta’s first major initiative to create its own identity in the smart glasses market, moving away from established eyewear brands. It also comes at a time when competition is heating up in the AI wearables market, with Apple, Google, and Snap all developing their own smart glasses solutions.
A key highlight of the Meta Glasses is that they are the first wearables to feature the new MuseSpark AI. Previously, Meta had included its original Meta AI in the smart glasses released so far. Starting today, MuseSpark will also be available on the smart glasses created in partnership with Ray-Ban and Oakley. Meta claims that MuseSpark provides smarter responses and a more profound contextual understanding compared to earlier versions of its AI assistant.
“With this iteration of Meta AI, your AI glasses will provide more intelligent answers on a range of topics from sports scores to nearby restaurant suggestions, better comprehend your surroundings, and seamlessly assist in managing your day-to-day life,” the company stated.
The glasses come equipped with integrated cameras, microphones, and speakers, enabling users to capture photos, record videos, stream music, make calls, and interact with the AI assistant through voice commands. MuseSpark can also assess what users are focusing on and deliver real-time contextual knowledge.
Pricing starts at $299 for the Adventurer and Fury models, while the Kylie Jenner version is priced at a premium of $399. This lower price point could be a significant sales advantage, as the second-gen Meta Ray-Ban glasses are priced at $379, and the Oakley Meta models start at $399. The Blayzer and Optics models are even pricier, retailing for $499 each.
This launch reflects Meta’s confidence that smart glasses might be the next major computing platform following smartphones. The company has heavily invested in AI, augmented reality, and wearable technology over recent years, seeing glasses as an ideal interface for digital assistants.
By combining style, celebrity endorsement, and cutting-edge AI features, Meta aims to transition smart glasses from niche products to something that can appeal to the broader public. Whether customers are prepared to adopt AI in their everyday eyewear remains to be seen, but Meta seems intent on bringing that future into reality sooner rather than later.
