A 27% discount on Apple’s flagship over-ear headphones is quite uncommon.
If you’ve been eyeing the AirPods Max 2 for a while but hesitated due to the high price, now is the perfect opportunity to save significantly on Apple’s newest over-ear headphones.
With the upcoming Prime Day Sale 2026, the AirPods Max 2 are now priced at $399, a difference of $150 from the original launch price of $549. When you do the calculations, it amounts to a considerable 27% discount, which is seldom seen with the latest Apple products.
What do you receive for $399?
For those who may not be aware, the AirPods Max 2 made their debut in March 2026; they are still very new at just three months old.
These headphones represent Apple’s pinnacle in over-ear audio, and the sound quality impresses. I’ve tried them briefly, and they deliver cleaner and richer audio, with a noticeable improvement in low-end response and better instrument separation.
They come with Apple’s newest H2 chip, which provides significantly improved active noise cancellation over the first generation, along with various intuitive audio features like Adaptive Audio (which adjusts ANC and Transparency Mode in real time) and Conversation Awareness (one of my all-time favorite features from the AirPods Pro 3).
Apple has also enhanced the connectivity capabilities of this model. It supports high-fidelity 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio through a wired USB-C connection, making them ideal for discerning or professional users. Although I prefer wireless connections, this could be a significant advantage for those who value wired options.
Additional features within the Apple ecosystem include Live Translation, offering real-time translation in your ears (with the appropriate language pack), and Head Gestures, allowing you to nod or shake your head to manage Siri notifications.
The price reduction on Amazon makes the AirPods Max 2 much more affordable, placing them in a segment where iPhone users are spending on alternatives like the Sony WH-1000XM6, which are excellent but lack the unique Apple features previously mentioned. If you are truly in the market for over-ear headphones to use with your iPhone and budget is not an issue, the AirPods Max 2 at $399 is an easy choice.

I appreciate Apple, but this decision regarding watchOS might be my tipping point.
I have been using Apple products for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest tech memories involve an iPod my father gave me as a child, and from that moment on, I was hooked. Soon after, I got my hands on an iPad of the second generation, and since then, I have mostly immersed myself in Apple’s ecosystem. Fast forward to the present, and not much has changed. My daily setup is primarily based around Apple products. I use an iPhone 17 as my main phone, a MacBook Air M2 for work, an Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) on my wrist, AirPods Pro 2 in my ears, and an iPad mini whenever I want a larger display than my iPhone. The ecosystem functions well, and it’s a significant reason I have remained loyal for so long. However, being a long-time Apple user doesn’t mean I believe the company always gets it right.
One thing I have learned over the years is that Apple often takes its time in adopting features that Android users have enjoyed for years. Whether it’s customization, AI capabilities, or everyday improvements in user experience, iPhone users typically have to be patient while Apple develops its own version of these ideas. Most of the time, I’ve been willing to wait since the final outcome is sufficiently polished to warrant it. Yet, there is a distinction between waiting for a feature and feeling as though your device has been left behind. That’s precisely the feeling I’ve been experiencing lately with my Apple Watch SE (2nd generation). For the first time in a long while, I found myself questioning whether Apple is demanding too much from its most loyal customers.
