Two of the most popular games in the Call of Duty franchise are set to be released on modern PlayStation consoles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 will finally be available on modern PlayStation systems this July. Treyarch has announced that Iron Galaxy is working on ports of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, allowing a new generation of PlayStation gamers to experience these beloved titles.
Though Treyarch has not specified the platforms, multiple reports and findings indicate that the games are being developed as native PlayStation 4 versions that will also function on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.
Originally released on PlayStation 3 in 2010 and 2012, these games have not been accessible on current PlayStation hardware. Xbox players have enjoyed backward compatibility with both titles for years, while PlayStation users have largely missed out.
These are straightforward ports, not remasters.
Players hoping for graphical enhancements should manage their expectations. Current details imply that these will be simple ports rather than remastered versions, suggesting that the original graphics and gameplay will remain mostly as they were.
While the ports may lack visual upgrades, they could incorporate some user-friendly enhancements. Reports suggest that support for languages such as Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Norwegian, Czech, and Danish may be included in the ports, which were not supported in the original games.
Treyarch has also confirmed that the ports will feature the complete experience, including campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes, enabling players to enjoy all the key aspects that contributed to the legendary status of both games.
The revival of multiplayer could be particularly noteworthy, as fresh servers are anticipated for the new releases, potentially providing fans with a more stable online experience compared to the older versions. For long-time players, this offers a chance to revisit the golden days of Black Ops multiplayer, while newcomers can discover why these two titles are regarded as some of the best in the Call of Duty series.
