Life360 has introduced a feature that allows parents to request Uber rides for their teenagers directly from the app.
Life360 and Uber have introduced an integration that allows parents to request and organize Uber rides for their teenagers and other family members directly within the Life360 app. Parents can touch a family member’s real-time location on the Life360 map, and the pickup information is automatically filled in the Uber app. The progress of the trip can be tracked on either platform.
Since its launch in 2023, Uber's teen accounts, designed for users aged 13 to 17, have facilitated tens of millions of rides in over 50 countries. Only highly rated, experienced drivers who have undergone comprehensive safety screenings, including checks on their motor vehicle records and criminal backgrounds, can accept ride requests from teen account users. Parents receive real-time alerts and can monitor trip progress.
“During the summer vacation period, teenagers tend to make more trips to places like malls, movie theaters, and sports camps, with over 40% of these rides taking place while many parents are still at work,” stated Margarita Peker, Head of Family Verticals at Uber.
Life360 boasts around 97.8 million monthly active users across more than 180 countries. The company has been marketing itself as a "family super app" by integrating various third-party services into its location-sharing platform. Uber is actively broadening its platform through partnerships in areas such as autonomous vehicles, delivery, and now family logistics.
As of June 18, the integration is available in select markets and supports both iOS and Android devices. It’s important to note that Life360 has previously come under fire for selling the location data of millions of users, which is a relevant concern for a feature that now links real-time locations of teenagers to a ride-hailing service.
