Roblox now provides age-specific accounts for children, along with enhanced parental controls.
Roblox has officially launched Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts globally, following a limited pilot program last month in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.
These account types are designed for users under the age of 16, with the aim of enhancing child safety measures that evolve as the child grows.
Understanding how Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts function for your child
Roblox
The two account categories are divided by age groups. Roblox Kids is for ages 5 to 8 and implements the platform’s most stringent default settings. Children in this category are restricted to games labeled with Minimal or Mild content maturity that have successfully passed Roblox’s selection process. In this account, chat features are disabled by default.
Roblox Select is designated for ages 9 to 15 and allows access to games rated Moderately. The chat settings vary depending on age and region. Both account types exclude games that involve sensitive subjects, social gatherings, and free-form drawing tools.
To maintain safety, games must meet stricter entry criteria, including developer ID verification, two-factor authentication, and either a Roblox subscription or a refundable publishing fee. Accounts will automatically upgrade as children age, transitioning from Roblox Kids to Roblox Select at age 9, and from Roblox Select to a standard account at age 16.
Enhancements to Roblox's parental controls for your child's safety

With this rollout, parental controls have been significantly improved. Parents who connect their accounts to their child's can oversee gameplay activity and friend lists, adjust content ratings, impose screen time limits, and manage spending.
New features include specific game-blocking options, extended direct chat management until the child turns 16, and a game approval function allowing parents to permit access to certain titles beyond the default catalog.
Roblox also becomes the first major gaming platform to enforce facial age verification for chat usage. Users who bypass age verification will be prevented from using chat altogether, regardless of their actual age. Later this year, Roblox plans to adopt the International Age Rating Coalition framework for content ratings.
