Microsoft's latest Surface Pro 12 is the finest 2-in-1 PC it has produced so far, though it also comes with the highest price tag.
The latest Surface Pro is the best yet, but it comes with the highest price tag to date.
Microsoft has revealed what could be its finest Surface Pro model so far. The 12th Edition of the Surface Pro, now with a 13-inch display, includes significant enhancements throughout, such as improvements in both CPU and GPU performance while also extending battery life.
These upgrades make it an appealing choice for those in search of a capable 2-in-1 laptop that can function as a tablet when needed, while also allowing for a keyboard attachment for quicker productivity. However, the cost may be a hurdle for some.
What are the new features of the Surface Pro 12?
The most notable change in the Surface Pro 12 is the integration of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 chipset family, which includes either the 10-core X2 Plus or the 12-core X2 Elite. The latter offers up to 53% enhanced graphics performance compared to the 11th Edition.
Battery life has also increased from 14 hours to 15.5 hours, which is a significant benefit. Additionally, it features a 1440p Quad HD camera with an ultrawide field of view and faster wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi 7.
The device is available in the traditional Platinum and Black finishes, along with a new Dune color option, complete with a matching Surface Pro Flex Keyboard.
How much does Microsoft charge for the device?
Now we need to pause and reconsider all the features that the new Surface Pro brings.
Microsoft's latest offering for the Surface Pro starts at $1,499 for the base model, which includes 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage—a $500 increase from the $999 starting price of the 11th Edition. If you wish to upgrade to an OLED display, that adds another $300, bringing the total to $1,799.
This price increase is significant for a device that closely resembles its predecessor. Part of the rise is attributed to the AI memory crisis, which has caused LPDDR5x RAM prices to surge in the industry, impacting premium Windows devices broadly.
To assist with the purchase, Microsoft is providing a complimentary Surface Pro Flex Keyboard until June 30, offering up to $900 in trade-in credit and a 50% discount on Microsoft Complete protection.
