Aiper IrriSense 2 review: An intelligent sprinkler for compact lawns
Aiper Irrisense 2
MSRP: $500.00
“The Aiper Irrisense 2 stands out as the most user-friendly smart sprinkler for above-ground use.”
Pros:
- Simple setup
- Customizable zones
- Integrated weather software
Cons:
- Requires a power outlet
- Lacks voice assistant support
Quick Review
The Aiper IrriSense 2 is an impressive all-in-one smart irrigation system that merges a sprinkler, controller, electric valve, and nutrient feeder into one convenient unit that you can set up in approximately 15 minutes or less. It can cover an area of up to 4,800 square feet using its TUV-certified EvenRain technology, allows for up to 10 customizable watering zones, and can significantly decrease water consumption through weather-sensitive scheduling and grass mapping. Priced at $500 MSRP (often reduced to about $400), it is an excellent choice for homeowners with small to medium-sized yards looking for smart irrigation without the need for trench digging or professional installation.
However, the system does require a nearby outdoor power outlet (and I personally dislike cords), has no built-in voice assistant compatibility, and the zone-mapping function may be problematic for yards with unusual shapes. If your main goal is to integrate with Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit, traditional smart controllers from Rachio or Orbit remain the top options. But for straightforward installation and independent smart features, the IrriSense 2 is hard to surpass.
What I Appreciate
- Quick 15-minute DIY setup: No need for trenching or plumbing. Just anchor, connect the hose, plug in, and map your zones in the app.
- Up to 10 customizable zones: Adjust watering schedules per zone based on the types of plants in your yard.
- EvenRain technology: TUV-certified consistent water distribution that mimics natural rain and reduces erosion.
- Weather-aware scheduling: Built-in rain detection automatically pauses watering during rain.
- Nutrient feeder included: Optional SoilPulse organic soil amendment can be distributed during irrigation.
- Eco-friendly packaging: Made from recyclable materials with minimal plastic waste.
What I Dislike
- Requires a power outlet: Without a battery or solar option, an extension cord might be necessary.
- Needs Wi-Fi to operate fully: Ensure you have a Wi-Fi signal at the desired location.
- No native voice assistant support: Lacks integration with Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit out of the box.
- Zone mapping issues: Irregular yard shapes can cause overlap errors, requiring straight-line adjustments in the app.
- Dependent on water pressure: To achieve the full 39-foot spray range, 45 PSI and 6.9 GPM are needed—lower pressure can decrease coverage.
- Single map storage: Only one map can be saved at a time, which limits flexibility for seasonal zone rearrangements.

Setup and Onboarding
Aiper claims the IrriSense 2 can be set up in 15 minutes, which was fairly accurate in my experience. The box includes the IrriSense 2 unit, ground anchoring stakes, a hose adapter, a power cable, and a quick-start guide. The packaging is recyclable with minimal plastic waste, which is a plus for environmentally conscious consumers.
The physical installation is very straightforward: place the unit in the desired location, use the provided screws to anchor it, connect your garden hose, and plug in the power cable. You will need either a nearby outdoor outlet or an extension cord, which is the most significant limitation of the system and may be bothersome for those who prefer a tidy setup.
The onboarding process using the Aiper app (iOS/Android) is easy to navigate. After creating an account, the
