Skoda's Peaq is a seven-seater electric SUV that is priced several thousand less than the Kia EV9.
**TL;DR:** Skoda's new Peaq seven-seat electric vehicle starts at around €50,000, offering a range of up to 600km and V2H charging, significantly undercutting the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9.
Skoda has unveiled the Peaq, its inaugural seven-seat all-electric SUV, marking the priciest vehicle in the company’s 130-year history. This model is constructed on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform at Skoda’s facility in Mladá Boleslav. Measuring nearly 4.9 meters in length, the Peaq aims to compete directly with the Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9, and Volvo EX90, but at a more attractive price point, with a target starting price of around €50,000 to €55,000, in contrast to approximately €66,000 for the EV9 and €70,000 for the Ioniq 9.
The lineup will feature three variants. The Peaq 60 combines a 150kW rear motor with a 63kWh battery, achieving over 460km of WLTP range, while the Peaq 90 upgrades to a 210kW motor and a 91kWh battery for more than 600km of range. The top-tier Peaq 90x includes a second motor for all-wheel drive and a total output of 220kW, maintaining the same 91kWh battery and range exceeding 600km.
All variants support DC fast charging at rates up to 200kW, enabling battery charging from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes. Additionally, the Peaq features bidirectional charging, allowing it to supply power back to a home through the VW Group’s Moon Power Ambibox DC wallbox. It also has vehicle-to-load functionality, enabling users to operate external devices directly from the vehicle’s battery.
Inside, the third-row seats can fold flat to create 890 liters of cargo space. Options available include a Sonos sound system, a panoramic glass roof, and massaging front seats. The design reflects Skoda’s Modern Solid aesthetic, which was first introduced with the Vision 7S concept that previewed the Peaq’s design in 2022.
Skoda announced the Peaq name in January 2026 and showcased a near-production model on March 30. The global launch is scheduled for June 23 in Monnetier-Mornex, France, with deliveries anticipated from mid-2026. Production will occur alongside the Enyaq at the Mladá Boleslav plant, making the Peaq the second model based on the MEB platform manufactured there.
The pricing strategy is the Peaq's strongest asset. Historically, Skoda has positioned itself as the value option within the VW Group, and the Peaq extends this approach into the seven-seat electric vehicle market, where competitors have ascended into premium pricing. The Kia EV9 begins at around €66,000 in Europe, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 around €70,000, and the Volvo EX90 even higher.
This strategic positioning is crucial as tariffs and trade restrictions are altering the availability of EVs in various markets. A European-built seven-seat electric SUV starting under €55,000 avoids the import challenges that have pushed many Korean and American models out of certain markets or into more expensive categories.
Moreover, the Peaq is entering a segment that has limited options. The Peugeot E-5008 offers seven seats at a lower cost, but with reduced range and dimensions. Above the Peaq, available options quickly escalate to luxury pricing. Skoda is banking on the idea that families seeking a large EV will desire the space and capabilities of a premium model without the associated cost, and the specifications of the Peaq indicate it can fulfill that need.
