Facebook and Messenger outage causes login anxiety as Meta services falter.
Downdetector noted a surge in reports as users mentioned being logged out of Facebook and Messenger, with Instagram also experiencing issues.
On Friday morning, Facebook and Messenger users faced a brief outage, with many reporting being logged out and unable to log back in. The disruption led users to other platforms like X and Reddit to verify if the issue was widespread or specific to their accounts.
Downdetector recorded an initial spike in Facebook complaints at around 9:52 a.m. ET.
Meta's Vice President of Communications, Andy Stone, commented on X shortly after, acknowledging that some users were having difficulty accessing Meta services and that a solution was being sought.

As of 09:46 a.m. ET, Downdetector had captured over 123,864 complaints regarding Facebook and more than 8,000 related to Instagram.
User complaints indicated that Messenger was also affected, as many reported being logged out of both Facebook and Messenger.
Instagram showed signs of disruption, though with less certainty regarding Threads.
At the time of writing, live outage trackers continued to show new problem reports for Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. Users experiencing login issues should refrain from repeated password resets and wait for services to become stable.

A decade-long study unveils the detrimental effects of social media scrolling on teenagers' mental health.
A new study from Australia reinforces concerns regarding social media's impact, particularly on teenagers. Research led by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute indicates that adolescents who use social media for over two hours daily are more prone to depressive symptoms and poorer well-being a year later compared to those who limit their usage to less than one hour per day.
While the study doesn't establish a direct causal relationship between social media and mental health issues, the findings are significant given the longitudinal nature of the research, as opposed to relying solely on short-term data.

Instagram introduces new voice message effects that allow users to sound like a pirate, grandma, or a World Cup enthusiast.
Instagram is enhancing its AI voice effects for direct messages (DMs), growing from eight effects introduced in March to a total of 15.
This expansion coincides with Meta's promotion for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and while the update is available on both Android and iOS, access is limited to certain countries.
Initially launched in India back in March, the voice effects included Chipmunk, Demon, Alien, Robot, Underwater, Stadium, Wobble, and Fishbowl. The broader rollout now introduces seven additional effects: Goal!, Pirate, Autotune, Whisper, Grandpa, Grandma, and Princess. The Goal! effect is new and designed to activate an animation when sent, aligning with the FIFA World Cup theme.

Reddit introduces video replies for comments, offering a potentially more effective way to engage in discussions.
Reddit is launching a new feature that allows users to reply in threads with videos. This capability starts rolling out today, enabling users to record or upload videos directly in the comment section of supported communities.
Initially, one might question the necessity of video replies when GIFs are already available. While the potential for memes exists, video comments could prove substantially more beneficial in communities focused on providing genuine help, feedback, or demonstrations.
