The AI price war has begun, and for once, it's your wallet that wins.

If you've ever been shocked by your monthly AI expenses, there's some encouraging news. A report from The Wall Street Journal indicates that OpenAI is contemplating significantly reducing its fees to attract users away from its competitor, Anthropic.

The company is considering major reductions to its token pricing, which AI companies use to bill for their services. Interestingly, this initiative comes in anticipation of similar price reductions from Anthropic. So, regardless of which AI service you utilize, your costs should decrease.

Why is OpenAI suddenly becoming more generous?

The explanation is straightforward: businesses are becoming weary of exorbitant AI costs. There have even been instances reported where AI expenses surpass those of actual employees. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged at a recent event that costs have become "a huge issue," remarking, "I think we’ll have a lot of ways we can help people get more value for less spend."

But that's not all. OpenAI is also encountering fierce competition. Anthropic's revenue boomed after the success of its coding tool, Claude Code, among software engineers, allowing the five-year-old startup to surpass OpenAI’s valuation for the first time. In response, OpenAI has focused more on its own coding tool, Codex, yet it remains significantly behind the competition.

Some corporations have invested heavily in AI coding tools, leading their leaders to now pull back on spending. An executive from Uber mentioned that the company has already exhausted its 2026 budget for agentic AI. These statements have sparked a debate in Silicon Valley about "tokenmaxxing," the practice of consuming as many tokens as possible to increase productivity, even if it does not yield returns.

Additionally, Google is in the mix. Its Gemini models, particularly the budget Flash tiers, underprice both ChatGPT and Claude, while its business plans are nearly half the cost of OpenAI's, intensifying the competitive landscape.

What does a price war mean for you?

For the companies, it's a risky venture. Both are already incurring billions in computing costs and have confidentially filed for IPOs. Cutting prices right before presenting to public investors will be a true test of their business models.

For users, it's promising news. They will soon experience a significant decrease in AI expenses. Ultimately, competition benefits consumers, and price reductions are a major advantage. So relax and watch as the AI giants battle it out, because for once, we are the beneficiaries.

Your Windows 11 PC can now natively handle AI workloads, even if it doesn't have the Copilot+ designation.

For nearly a year, Microsoft has been communicating that the future of AI on Windows belongs to Copilot+ PCs. If you wanted to access Microsoft's most advanced local AI features, you needed a machine equipped with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). That was the condition. However, Microsoft appears to be changing the game.

According to revised documentation, Windows 11's local Language Model APIs can now function on non-Copilot+ PCs, provided they have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-series GPU (or newer) with at least 6GB of VRAM. On the surface, this seems like an update aimed at developers. In reality, it may represent one of the most substantial changes in Microsoft's AI PC strategy since the launch of Copilot+ PCs last year. More importantly, it brings up a lingering question since the onset of the AI PC era: Did we genuinely need NPUs for all this initially?

The Windows 11 June update enhances the responsiveness of your Start menu and Search.

The Low Latency Profile is the first specific fix Microsoft has implemented for shell responsiveness, and the June update is now available to all eligible PCs, not just Insider preview testers.

If you've ever clicked the Start button and waited a second or two for the menu to show up, you understand the issue Microsoft aimed to address with its June 2026 Windows 11 update. The update (KB5094126), released on June 9, 2026, for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, targets the shell responsiveness concerns that have quietly frustrated users since 2021. The main change is the broad rollout of the Low Latency Profile.

ChatGPT could soon make purchases on your behalf, thanks to OpenAI's new collaboration with Visa.

Imagine instructing ChatGPT to reorder paper towels or find the best wireless headphones within your budget, and it simply completes the purchase without any effort on your part. This is precisely what OpenAI and Visa are working towards.

The two companies announced a strategic partnership at the Visa Payments Forum, planning to integrate Visa's global payment infrastructure directly into OpenAI's AI agent experiences, including ChatGPT and the Atlas browser.
