Meta introduces an AI assistant and a desktop version for its CapCut competitor, Edits.
Meta is enhancing its Edits app with the addition of an AI assistant that analyzes Instagram data and proposes video ideas, along with a forthcoming desktop version. More than half of Reels viewers encounter Edits content daily.
The company introduced these features at a private creator event in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The AI assistant is currently being tested with attendees, and the desktop version will be available soon. This AI helper utilizes creators' Instagram analytics, such as views and video retention rates, to assess successful content and suggest new ideas. It can propose subjects based on performance trends and identify trending audio. The intention is to retain creators within Meta's ecosystem instead of relying on third-party tools like ChatGPT for brainstorming or analytics.
Last week, Meta also launched a similar AI assistant for Facebook creators. YouTube Studio Features an AI-powered Inspiration tab, and TikTok has its own creative assistant. While these features are common across platforms for creators, integrating them directly into the editing app, rather than the social platform, is a strategic effort to enhance Edits' appeal.
The desktop version aims to bridge a significant gap between Edits and CapCut, which has offered desktop editing since its inception, allowing creators to have greater control on a larger screen for more complex workflows. Meta indicates that creators will be able to synchronize projects easily between mobile and desktop.
Several features were also unveiled alongside this announcement. A Beta tab provides creators with early access to experimental functionalities still under development. Broadened audience insights now feature demographic details and peak engagement times. Additionally, creators can search specific topics within the app's Inspiration feed to find trending Reels and templates, as well as create multiple versions of a single video to conduct A/B testing on performance before publishing.
Meta did not disclose download figures for Edits, but it mentioned that content created with the app has a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate than content not made on Edits. Over half of the individuals viewing Reels on Instagram see Edits-generated content daily.
Launched last year in direct response to the threats posed by TikTok and CapCut, Edits coincided with a temporary scare regarding a US ban that briefly affected both platforms. Meta acted swiftly to fill this void. The introduction of the AI assistant and desktop version represents the next phase in establishing Edits as a lasting platform tool that encourages creators to produce content for Instagram rather than its rivals.
