**Quick Review**
I invested in the reMarkable vision years ago, trying several models, but the Paper Pure is the version I continually return to. Priced at $399, it is the entry-level E Ink tablet from reMarkable that effectively replaces the aging reMarkable 2, albeit by removing almost all the expected features of a gadget from 2026.
It does not have a color screen, front light, or keyboard; what you get is a pad and pen, treated with utmost seriousness. Internally, a faster dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage provide a noticeably quicker experience than its predecessor. Switching from an aluminum casing to textured plastic brings the weight down to a light 360g, a welcome relief for your arms. The 10.3-inch Canvas display offers beautiful, paper-like black-and-white contrast.
On the downside, the absence of a backlight hampers usability in low-light settings, and the lack of keyboard support confines it to handwriting only. Several useful software features, such as calendar sync and handwriting-to-text, are locked behind the Connect subscription, which can be disappointing. Nevertheless, for students, writers, and professionals seeking a perfectly designed minimalist notebook with an exceptional note-taking feel, the Paper Pure remains the prime choice.

When a tech company replaces a well-loved, premium device with a lower-cost option, I often brace for disappointment. However, the reMarkable Paper Pure avoids that pitfall. The noticeable change from the reMarkable 2 is the transition from cold, brushed aluminum to a textured plastic case, but it feels more like a product of smart engineering than a cost-cutting measure.
At 7.4 x 8.9 inches and a 6mm thickness, the tablet resembles a slim notepad. The real surprise is its weight. At 360 grams (0.79 pounds), the Paper Pure is significantly lighter compared to the reMarkable 2 and much lighter than the Paper Pro, altering the overall experience.
You can comfortably hold it with one hand during long reading or sketching sessions without the usual arm fatigue associated with heavier devices like an iPad. It feels almost weightless yet remains sturdy, showing minimal flex when pressed, except for a slight wobble on a perfectly flat surface.
reMarkable has incorporated a sustainability ethos in the Paper Pure. The device consists of recycled materials, including all lithium and cobalt in the battery, with recycled magnesium used for the internal frame to maintain structural integrity without adding extra weight. The most surprising aspect is located at the back.
When you flip it over, you'll see ten exposed plastic screws securing the backplate. Unlike modern electronics that often use
