Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite has made its debut in a mini PC, appearing to be Windows' response to the Mac mini.
Qualcomm
For the last two years, Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series has primarily been used in notebooks. These chips provided remarkable battery life and surprisingly strong performance, yet they never had the opportunity to compete with compact desktop systems like Apple's Mac mini or even the more robust Mac Studio. The Ascent QN10 alters this situation.
Featuring the 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite processor along with Qualcomm's integrated Adreno GPU, this small desktop also becomes the first mini PC worldwide to deliver 80 TOPS of AI performance thanks to its dedicated Hexagon NPU. Consequently, ASUS is unveiling a new form factor for Qualcomm’s most advanced PC silicon.
The desktop introduction Snapdragon has been waiting for
What stands out about the Ascent QN10 is that Qualcomm's leading PC chip has finally transitioned to a desktop format. Up until this point, comparing Snapdragon-equipped systems to Apple's Mac mini felt somewhat imbalanced. One was housed in a laptop chassis with battery limitations, while the other was a dedicated desktop designed for ongoing performance. The QN10 allows Qualcomm to enter that discussion.
ASUS states that the system unites the X2 Elite’s 18-core CPU with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory operating at 9600MHz, ensuring a blend of performance and efficiency while keeping quiet and cool. This is the same approach Apple has effectively used with the Mac mini for years: delivering serious performance without the noise and heating issues typically associated with conventional desktop PCs. Whether the QN10 can genuinely compete with Apple's compact desktops is yet to be determined, but for the first time, Qualcomm possesses the hardware platform to make that comparison relevant.
The chip leaves its confines
Naturally, ASUS and Qualcomm are heavily focusing on AI. At Microsoft Build, the companies showcased the QN10 using developer tools like Visual Studio Code and GitHub Copilot while managing AI-assisted workflows locally. Another demonstration illustrated the device running private large language models via LLMWare and AnythingLLM without depending on cloud servers.
This is where the 80 TOPS NPU becomes crucial. Instead of sending data to outside servers, developers can execute AI tasks directly on the machine, providing benefits in terms of privacy, security, and speed. The QN10 also supports Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC functionalities, making it one of the first desktop-centric systems designed around Microsoft's expanding AI ecosystem.
Still, the most significant point from ASUS’s announcement is that the Snapdragon X2 Elite has finally transitioned out of the laptop category. If Qualcomm intends for Windows on Arm to be considered a viable long-term alternative to Apple's silicon initiative, a compact desktop like the Ascent QN10 is precisely the type of product it needed to create.

Storage innovation promises secure data recovery even after hackers compromise your computer
This new system enables the recovery of deleted files for up to 126 days post-cyberattack.
When hackers infiltrate your computer, one of their initial actions is often to delete or lock your files and disappear. By the time you realize there's a problem, the damage is frequently irreversible. A researcher at Florida International University has devised a method to change this, integrating the solution directly into your storage drive.
Understanding where your deleted files truly go

Android will now alert you if someone is using AI to impersonate your contact's voice during a call
Google's fake call detection represents the first instance a phone platform has implemented a real-time cryptographic safeguard against AI voice cloning scams.
While advancements in AI benefit individuals from various backgrounds, they also have drawbacks. One of the most abused issues has been AI voice cloning. Over the years, it has progressed to the point where many people struggle to distinguish a deepfake voice from an authentic one.
Scammers are already aware of this and have been impersonating users’ contacts, replicating their voices, and executing financial fraud for some time. Android's new fake call detection aims to prevent that scenario from happening before you incur any losses.
