Google has announced that Nest cameras are now capable of recognizing and following your pets at home.

Google's newly introduced Pet Memory feature enables compatible Nest cameras to recognize pets by their names rather than just their species.

Google Home is enhancing its ability to remember animals in the household. The Pet Memory feature, part of the Gemini for Home update, allows supported cameras to identify a pet by its name after the owner has entered the pet’s name and type using Ask Home.

This update is compatible with indoor Nest cameras and certain models equipped with Gemini. Once set up, Google Home can provide personalized alerts when a recognized pet enters a room or appears in the camera history.

To use Pet Memory, a subscription to the Advanced plan of Google Home Premium is required, linking this feature to Google’s paid smart home tier.

What happens when cameras can identify pets

Receiving alerts about a named pet can spare owners from needing to access a live feed or sift through video clips just to determine which animal initiated motion detection. For households with multiple pets, this level of specificity is particularly beneficial.

Google states that Pet Memory aims to minimize misidentifications. This means an alert can indicate the correct pet, the appropriate room, and the nature of the activity, reducing the uncertainty for the app user.

However, this feature requires detailed setup. Users must provide Ask Home with additional information about their pets, including their names and types, to enable Gemini to deliver more personalized updates from the cameras.

      Concerns surrounding pet AI

Google is not the only company attempting to enhance pet recognition capabilities. Ring's Search Party employs AI to assist in finding lost dogs by analyzing participating outdoor Ring cameras and doorbells located near reported lost pets, allowing camera owners to decide if they want to share any matched footage.

Ring's implementation highlights how quickly a pet-oriented feature can lead to privacy concerns. The Search Party faced backlash because it was turned on by default for eligible cameras, and the criticism intensified after Ring advertised the feature during the Super Bowl in 2026.

The repercussions extended beyond just the dog-finding function. Following the negative reactions related to the ad, Amazon's Ring opted to terminate a planned collaboration with Flock Safety, a company focused on law enforcement technology; however, it was noted that Search Party was not linked to that partnership.

      Considerations before activation

Google's offering is more limited than Ring's community focus. Pet Memory is specifically associated with users' individual supported indoor cameras and activates only after the owner provides pet details through Ask Home.

Nevertheless, this comparison lends a sharper focus to Google's update. Camera AI becomes more beneficial when it clarifies what the dog has been up to while the owner is away but raises privacy concerns when identifying specific animals within the home.

Google has not disclosed a complete list of all supported Gemini-enabled cameras or provided a distinct timeline for the availability of Pet Memory in different regions. Before enabling the feature, it is advisable to verify camera compatibility, Ask Home access, alert visibility, and whether the Advanced plan justifies the cost.

Google’s first new smart speaker in six years may soon have a release date.

Google has been notably quiet regarding its Gemini-powered Home Speaker since announcing it in October 2025. I anticipated its appearance at I/O 2026, but that did not occur.       My Lawn Used to Be an Endless Weekend Chore Until the LEBOSBO V3 Took Over.

The innovative lawn care solution operates less like a machine and more like an extra set of hands.

I used to believe that tedious lawn maintenance was simply an unspoken duty of homeownership— a task I reluctantly accepted and forced myself to tackle each weekend. I would assure myself I’d finish quickly, only for it to turn into hours of labor. Instead of enjoying leisurely summer weekends outdoors, I often found myself laboring under the sun, pushing a mower, edging, bagging countless clippings, and managing equipment that always seemed to require more effort than anticipated. Even after dedicating an entire Saturday morning, my lawn rarely remained pristine for more than a few days.

This growing frustration led me to explore smarter lawn care options. However, many robotic lawn mowers I encountered didn
