Samsung One UI 9 will deactivate your fingerprint every time you access the power menu.
The lockdown button has been removed, replaced by medical information, and your Galaxy phone now automatically locks down each time you open and close the menu.
Samsung Galaxy phones have featured a lockdown mode for several years. This manual option, found in the power menu, disables fingerprint and facial recognition and requires a PIN entry.
It serves as a useful emergency measure when someone might force you to unlock your phone using your face or finger. However, many users were either unaware of its existence or never utilized it. One UI 9 addresses this issue by eliminating the option altogether.
What specifically changed in the power menu?
According to SammyFans and verified by participants in the r/oneui community on Reddit, One UI 9 Beta 2 (based on Android 17) alters how lockdown mode operates.
The dedicated lockdown button has been completely eliminated from the power menu. In its place, you will find medical information, which is a more contextually relevant option for first responders during emergencies.
Lockdown mode itself has not been removed; it has just become automatic.
Now, as soon as you access the power menu and then dismiss it, One UI 9 activates lockdown. This locks the phone and disables both fingerprint recognition and face unlock. The only way to unlock the device is by entering your PIN, pattern, or password.
Is this improvement or just a hassle?
I believe it represents a significant enhancement. The previous setup required you to maintain clarity in stressful moments, find the correct button, and press it before handing over your phone—or worse, before it was taken from you.
The new approach entirely alleviates that mental load. Accessing the power menu is now a natural response when something feels off, and reaching for the side button comes instinctively. Samsung has effectively transformed that reflex into a security measure without needing an additional step.
Currently, the feature is active in One UI 9 Beta 2 and hasn’t been confirmed for the stable release. Since Samsung has not officially announced this change, it may still be adjusted before the public release of One UI 9.

The updated Zenbook 14 showcases these finishes on a Ceraluminum and metal chassis weighing 1.1kg. It also ticks all the boxes for a premium laptop, including Copilot+ PC support, OLED display choices, and processor options from Intel, AMD, and Snapdragon. However, for it to rival the MacBook Neo, there remains one crucial aspect to be addressed—price.
