The Asus ROG Ally X receives a unique redesign featuring an OLED display and elegant gold accents that are not overly flashy.

The bundle features a translucent black and gold Ally X with an OLED screen, TMR joysticks, and AR glasses.

Limited edition gaming hardware has a long-standing tendency to simply apply a commemorative color or accents to existing devices. However, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle, revealed at Computex 2026 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ASUS’s ROG brand, avoids this pitfall. The enhanced design alone warrants a closer examination.

What sets the Ally X20 apart?

The most noticeable change is the appearance of the handheld. The X20 has a translucent black body, reminiscent of the semi-transparent designs from the early 2000s, revealing a golden structure beneath.

This design is eye-catching without being excessive, which is more challenging to achieve than it may seem for items featuring gold. Yes, I am referring to those limited-edition iPhone modifications with unbearable gold aesthetics.

In addition to its design, the X20 features an OLED display, a first for the Ally handheld series. The new Nebula HDR 7.4-inch panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate with FreeSync Premium Pro and can reach a peak brightness of 1,400 nits.

But that’s not all. The handheld also includes Dolby Vision support and boasts a response time of 0.2ms. The display is protected by Corning DXC glass with an anti-reflective coating, reducing glare by 65%. The thermal design has been completely revamped to accommodate the higher heat sensitivity of OLED.

      What other updates are available?

The X20 introduces TMR joystick technology, which is touted as more accurate than Hall effect sensors, along with a Transforming D-Pad that can switch between four-way and eight-way modes.

The rear grips are now coated in rubber for added comfort during long gaming sessions. Inside, it packs an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.

The X20 is bundled with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, which connect via a single USB-C cable. For those not in the loop, the glasses can project a 171-inch virtual screen at four meters, use micro-OLED technology, refresh at 240Hz, cover 95% of the focused field of view, and offer native 3DoF tracking.

Asus has not yet revealed the pricing or availability of the new ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle, but it definitely appears to be an enticing option for gaming enthusiasts.
