YouTube's AI content labels are receiving a well-deserved update.
No more sifting through descriptions. YouTube's AI labels are taking a more prominent position.
This year's Google I/O signaled Google's shift from a search-based focus to a complete emphasis on AI. The company introduced various AI tools, but the most significant for YouTubers is Google Omni, designed for video creation and editing.
Although tools like Omni make it easier for creators, which is beneficial, it also leads to a surge of low-effort AI-generated content on the platform. Recognizing that this could irritate many users, the company has been requiring creators to declare AI-generated material since 2024.
This initial move was a positive step, but the label was hidden within the video description, not exactly an easily noticeable area. That changes today. YouTube is implementing two significant updates regarding how AI-generated content is labeled on its platform, both of which are advantageous for viewers and creators.
Where will the new labels be displayed?
For longer videos, the AI disclosure label will now be positioned directly beneath the video player, rather than in the description. This means viewers no longer need to click on the description to determine if the video they're watching was created with AI.
For Shorts, the label will serve as an overlay directly on the video itself. If a video appears natural but was made or significantly altered by AI, viewers will be informed before they begin watching.
In cases where content is animated, unrealistic, or only mildly edited, the disclosure will remain within the expanded description. Therefore, these updates specifically target photorealistic or substantially altered content.
What happens if a creator fails to disclose AI content?
While YouTube does not penalize AI videos, some creators might neglect to share this information or may forget entirely. YouTube has a solution for this as well. The platform is introducing automatic AI detection. If the system identifies significant photorealistic AI use in a video and the creator has not disclosed it, YouTube will automatically apply the label.
If a video is incorrectly labeled by the system, creators can update the disclosure status through YouTube Studio. The only instances where the label remains permanent are for videos created using YouTube's own AI tools, such as Veo or Dream Screen, or for videos with metadata confirming they are entirely AI-generated.
As previously noted, these labels do not influence how videos are recommended or their monetization potential. The aim here is simply to provide viewers with accurate information at the right moment.

AI models exhibit a bias toward certain religions, as highlighted by new research.
Recent findings by a new research consortium reveal that when users inquire about grief, love, loss, or moral dilemmas, AI rarely incorporates religion into the discussion. The Consortium for Evaluation of Faith and Ethics in AI (CEFE-AI), a collective from Brigham Young University, Baylor University, the University of Notre Dame, and Yeshiva University, shared its insights this week at the AI Ethics Summit in Athens, Greece.
Apple's iOS 26.6 notifies you when you've reached the limit of blocked contacts, and that's a concern.
Apple has released the first beta of iOS 26.6 to developers, and it contains just one recognized feature: an alert indicating when your blocked contacts list is full. That’s all there is to it. The necessity for this alert points to an uncomfortable reality regarding how Apple, carriers, and regulators have managed the issue of spam calls.
